Having just beaten the Powder Gangers in my most recent save, I'm thinking about running an experiment to see if dispatching Joe Cobb at the Saloon affects the game (and, if so, how). While I want to find the exact results out myself, I figure asking you folks a simple yes/no question wouldn't hurt. Should I expect any changes if I run the abovementioned experiment?

Well I’m sure you’ve tried it by now, but all that really happens is that you can’t side with the powder gangers during Ghost Town Gunfight, and I believe Trudy chastises you for killing him because now the powder gangers will be mad at goodsprings. You can tell Ringo that you killed Cobb and he’s like “cool, but I still have to deal with the his buddies” or something.

Edit: Guess I didn’t finish reading your question. To give you a simple yes-or-no: No, killing Joe Cobb as soon as you meet him will not affect the game in a meaningful way.
