Commandos Series goes FPS

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
I know there are some commandos fans around here, and having played the two first games quite a bit, these recent news on the series were enough to give me a shiver... Not really about the future of the commandos franchise, but as a sign of the modern trends taking over the gaming industry

so, without further ado
Commandos series goes FPS

No reason to panic. Look at Hidden & Dangerous - it has chase cam, but is still a very good tactical game.

Problems of Commandos series go way deeper than simple perspective change. Main problem is that core team has left and new team doesn't know shit about developing a good, balanced squad-based tactical game. Commandos 3 is a perfect example - a game that fixes none of its predecessors' faults, but manages to introduce quite a number of its own, peculiar ones. I don't know about you, but I find the fact that new Commandos will feature only three characters far more worrying. I fear the developers will oversimplify the game mechanics and turn this game into another Deus Ex 2.

But, really, who cares? Most fans gave up on the series after Commandos 3. And if you can't get enough of tactical squad-based games with WWII theme, here's always Hidden And Dangerous series.

I for one never saw the commandos games as "tactical squad based combat", they're far more like a puzzle game in the lines of"the incredible machine"

Did EIDOS have any relevance to the computer gaming world after Miss Fake Tits became old hat? I didn't think so.

This FPS Commandos, from the sound of it, promises shit for play and even worse for any possible multiplayer. It would play like a discount version of TFC, if that. "Original online multiplayer modes" promises pure unadulterated shit given the developer's previous work. Let me look into the future. Oh, yes...just like UT2k4's assault maps, but Skill-By-Number.

It's pretty sad to see every game be turned into a stupid FPS mod. Just wait for the cretins to blame it on some part of current trends or something like that, when it tanks. There's already a number of FPS games that promise much better.

By combining the tactical approach of the previous Commandos games with the intense action of a fps, Commandos Strike Force will provide a more cerebral approach to the war game genre.

It's proven, another CEO, Ignacio Perez of Pyro Studios, is now a confirmed money whore fucktard. His statement above is so unbelievably moronic and full of holes based upon mechanics, it should be obvious and a point of mockery around the Commandos fandom. I really shouldn't have to point out to anyone here how the FPS aspect makes it more Action and reflex instead of "cerebral", but maybe the moron might see this post and get a clue.

*snicker* Right. I'm guessing his "cerebral approach" means anything involving the second brain near his ass, right alongside the first one which is UP his ass.

WHAT?

H&D1 a good game? are you daft?!?

i had to review that when it just came out. granted the concept was well thought through, the features were ok, but it was the most buggy game i ever saw!

i mean: enemies falling through the ground, but still able to shoot you. your characters getting completely blocked by some stupid little ledge 2 meters from the extractionpoint and so on and so forth...

Yeah, I recall those. The release version of H&D was awfully bugged, I will give you that - I was completely revolted and stopped playing as early as the first mission. But after a series of patches and the expansion (which brought some awesome missions, one of which takes place in the beautiful town of Gradiste in Croatia), it was shaped into one of the best tactical games out there. I hear the sequel is even better, while remaining true to the series (a concept alien to the industry nowadays), though it likely has its own share of nasty bugs.

Unfortunately, with Commandos going down the path of mediocrity, Hidden & Dangerous will be the only good squad-based tactical game set in WWII.
