Comparing real and in-game map

I've began to make enchancements on main campaign and found myself stuck at adding new locations.
Well, to know where to place new cities (locations), i need to know are existent ones placed properly? I found Jefferson, Springfield, Preoria, SentLouis and Kanzas.

But while merging real mid-USA map with game one, i found that these cities don't fit perfectly. Well, they maybe moved with time (like one side of city destroyed and people raised more huts on another side). Another condusion is Michigan lake - i think it is on both maps. But i can't figure out why it changed it "angle". Is game map rotated 5-10 degrees?

Brahmin Wood = Chicago, or it meant to be some near-Chicago village?

Most problems caused by WEST part of map. Where Vault 0 was located, at Colorado Springs city or somewhere else? In Fallout Wiki there are some suggestions about real names of Buena Vista and Scott City locations, but in fact most of suggested cities located NOT_IN_THAT part of USA.

If someone have real-vs-game map comparision image (like for Fallout 1 and 2) in good resolution or other suggestions on this theme - feel free to leave them here  By the way, in-game map has good vision or relief so it may help with comparing to some real mountains or other places. I've never been in USA, so i can't see this region myself...

For now i'm looking for more-or-less exact location for placing Sioux Falls city.

I didn't posted this in my mod topic because other mod' authors may also want to know something about this.

What you might want to consider is cutting larger cities into smaller parts. A city like Chicago could easily be divided into several towns corresponding to the names of the different boroughs/neighborhoods (in Chicago, this would be names like River Grove, Maywood, Burbank, Griffith, Wheeling, etc. (check out the google map to find suiting areas and names)).
