Computer crashes and reboots while playing fo1/2

First time out of the vault
Hi there!

I have been a fan of fallout 1 and 2 since they where released and they have always worked fine, until I got my new computer. Now, when playing for about 15 minutes the whole machine crashes and reboots. Sure, I am still able to play but it takes a whole lot of the fun out of it, having to save constantly and always try to do things as fast as possible.

I have tried various approaches to this problem;
Turning off my graphics-card, installing manually and even buying new copies of the games with no result what so ever.

My computer stats are:
AMD ATHLON 1,7 GHZ
80 GB HD
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GEFORCE 4 Ti 4400

I am thankfull for any kind of advice!

If it randomly reboots you could try to check what happens with other games. If the same thing happens with other things/games, it could very well be your mobo, processor or something else overheating. But we need more information, like whether it happens on other games, whether you play with the patched version or not etc.

the thing is, it's only this game that randomly crashes. i have played new games with high demands such as far cry for hours and hours without having to cope with this problem :/

Well, I know that!
If I am lucky, I only get a message like "invalid operation code" ;-(((

Thats why I hate FO on Win - and FO is NOT the only one ;-(((
Win simply s**ks ;-(((

But it works fine on Mac (except some Mods....) !!!!

Thats the main reason why VPC rulez!
Then only a Task is crashing, not the whole machine.....

I am looking forward to VPC 7, so I can get FOT (and others) to run again.....

Greetings
Jona

I am playing the patched versions, but the error also occurs while using the unpatched versions. :(

If your OS is Windows XP:
You try set Compatitility Mode in Properties of fallout2.exe (or fallout.exe) to "Windows 95 compatibility mode"? Or in "Windows 98/Me compatibility mode"? And try set checkboxes in "Display settings" section.
Try it, it may help.
