Cowardly Sulik!

Sir Robin

First time out of the vault
I did a search and couldn't see anyone reporting this glitch.

I was level 24 and roaming the area of Navarro for Enclave Patrols to engage in combat when... Sulik took to running away like an abject coward at the beginning of every encounter! So I was left with only Cassidy and Klint.

I *think* I found a way around the problem. This: at the end of each encounter, talk to Sulik, ask him to wait for you. Then have him join the party again, and re-issue combat commands (stay close, attack whomever is attacking me, and so on). It seemed to work, but then... it was Klint's turn to become a coward -- another brave, brave Sir Robin  !

Has anyone encountered this behaviour? Is there a way around it?

I did do a google search on +cowardly +sulik +mib88 and another on +coward +sulik +mib88 and found nothing.

There is a good chance that one (or both) had a crippled limb of some kind.

I reloaded my game, went a-hunting with Klint, Cassidy and Sulik, encountered an Enclave Patrol, Sulik bravely ran away, leaving us to battle the patrol. When it was over I inspected Sulik. 124Hp out of 124, no crippled anything. I saved my game. I can upload it somewhere if you like.

It's happened several times already. It seems that Sulik becomes his normal self again once I've told him to wait, and then told to join me again. But I am by no means 100% sure.

I hit a few more encounters, and Sulik was fine, without me telling him to wait, and rejoin us after the encounter. Then he became a coward again.

As I mentioned before, the same had also happened, with Klint. And I am absolutely sure that Klint was physically fine, not crippled or anything. At any rate, after every encounter I have the whole party rest until they are restored to full HPs (hey! why do you think my name is Sir Robin?)

I've had this problem happen to me with other NPCs several times throughout my years of (re)playing Fallout 2. I'm pretty sure this is an inherent vanilla bug that nobody's noticed enough to get to the bottom of. It's never been game-breaking for me because it's never permanent. For me, at least.

It had never happened to me when I was playing Fallout2. But now, with MegaMod 2.33, it keeps happening every few encounters.

It did not happen, though, when I was at lower levels. Only since level 22 (or 23? I should check that but I really feel too lazy to load an old game and go through a former life again).

I've only had this happen once in a vanilla playthrew.

Sulik would plain freak everytime i got in a fight yelling about evil warriors or something. this was at the Enclave and with the whole place on alert, i ended up having to restart anyway.

But yeah your not alone on this.

Sulik finds his courage!

This is from RP v1.2. In the Klamath Rat Caves, I watched him put away his sledgehammer and equip something else, (as he often does). Went to talk to get him to switch back and discovered him getting into the booze I gave him to hold for the trade with Lydia!

Was he going to use it or break the bottle?

Sulik on the bottle

Wielding booze???

Well, it might be possible. I read, in some walkthrough, that you could use booze on your opponents. It lowers their perception.

But still... (oh! I did it! I did it! Booze... still... got it?)
