I'm using a Mac to type this message at school, and I've come to the conclusion that Macs really do suck, in all forms. I used to give them the time of day as they did, on the surface, seem well designed; however that notion was soon put to rest. Any computer system manufacturer that purposefully provides only one mouse button on their mouse, adds delete characters to a filename when you press the delete key instead of removing the character, has hardware, not software-controlled capslocking, and does not support shift-highlighting in textboxes sucks royal dick and should be eliminated.

The sad thing is that Macs aren't even top-of-the-line for design anymore. Even an 867mhz G4 falls by the wayside in comparison to the much less-expensive x86 processors. In tests done by PC Magazine, Photoshop takes longer to render, and so does Bryce on a Mac. So what do Macs really have going for them?

Truth is, you're right. I work off of a PC, but use Macs a lot too, and boy, does my AMD 1.2 beat a G4. The thing I like about PCs is, at least in my own personal experience, they are much more hands on. I rarely see a Mac with its case off, whereas my computer is open at least once a day (although that is primarily for cooling, I'm overclocked to 1.333, and it's been hot recently). It took them long enough to figure out that disk drives should have an eject button (and then they immediatly forgot again). Still, I remember the glory days... the days of the Apple IIe, and the Mac Classic... although I always thought the idea of a one-button mouse was really stupid (I use a 3-button with a wheel). And on the other hand, look at Windows ME... *Shudder*

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present, the best operating system ever made: DOS!!!!

C:\>

C:\>WindowsME_

C:\WindowsME\>

C:\WindowsME\>dir_

C:\WindowsME\>A whole lot of shit you don't need that slows down your computer

My old PIII ran faster in pure DOS mode than my AMD 1.2 runs now. My AMD in DOS mode is godlike. For those of you who don't know, Windows is, basically, just a visualization system for DOS. Whenever you do something in Windows, it sends the command to DOS, DOS executes the command, and then Windows displays it happening. All Windows really does is take up LOTS of memory. DOS and DRAM, the ultimate combination!

p.s. everyone take a look at this shirt. It describes both my computer and my life:

If only computers were so apologetic... instead when I have to reboot because the computer freezes I receive something to the effect:

"Microsoft Scandisk. Next time please remember to shut down the computer properly before turning off."

Gee, I wish I was given that chance...

Actually those G4 computers are kind of neat in the way their case opens up even when the computer is on...

The fact that you have to "trash" a disk is SOOOO counter-intuitive. I really hate Quicktime too, it is such a POS, not that Media Player is much better. The best solution would be Sasami2K (www.sasami2k.com).

I find it hard not to live with less than four buttons and a a scrollwheel (which technically makes it 5 buttons).

Two primary ones, one for refresh, and another for minimize... ahhh...

Actually Windows does handle a lot of things that DOS can't, like multithreading, etc. While I love DOS and don't want it ever abandoned in Windows, I would not go back to the pure DOS era. Everything seemed to run a lot better back then because programs were coded a lot better. I do enjoy using Windows's interface, and many good things have come out of it. Back in my P150 days with Win95 OSR2, NOTHING crashed my system. It was rock solid and I didn't know the meaning of the BSD except when I got CDROM errors. I finally discovered that my CPU was giving me errors due to overheating with my AMD K6-III 450mhz and a lot of problems went away after I applied better cooling in the form of using a case-fan instead of a dinky heatsink fan for my CPU's heatsink.
