(crash) The memory could not be written (Fallout 2)

First time out of the vault
I'm on Windows 7 64bit with 8 gigs of ram. I also use Megamod if that makes a difference, but I do have the latest fixes...or should anyway.

Randomly, sometimes when I start up the game. Sometimes when I load a game. Sometimes if I load a new area. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all.

But randomly, I get "The memory could not be written" and the game crashes to the desktop.

Once in a while, I get memory could not be read from. But, that seems rare.

I have also tried running the game in and not in admin mode...still same problem.

Is there any fix for this or what could cause it? I didn't save the game in programs files, but my custom games folder.

I use the GOG version of Fallout 2, I bought it a couple days ago

Sadly, this is a game breaking problem.

Either I need to fix this, or get a refund from GOG. Or get credit for another game on their. 50% of the time that I load a new area, I get memory can't be written. Yes, one out of two times the game crashes, which is way too much. About 5% it can't be read, so that is really rare.

I usually have to try 2 or 3 times to start up Fallout 2 and usually 2 times to load a save...but I can live with that.

But I don't want to save every single time before I load a new area...makes the game kind of easy just saving all the time. But maybe that's just me. But my game crashes SO much. It really ruins it. And I did a heavy google search and found one other person with the problem...but no one responded to him. Mostly I see "memory can't be read", but I rarely get that.

I am kind of disappointed, as I really really want to be able to play Fallout 2...from what I played at a friends place, it was awesome.

Ah well...maybe I just need to get a refund. I can't find anything to fix my specific problem, and the other guy that had the same exact problem. I don't know if he ever got it fixed, either. No one ever responded to him.
