Critical Failure -- what?

Everyone knows them, everyone loves them. Critical failures are what being Jinxed is all about.

But how exactly do they work?

Is it a roll based on your luck? If so, how is the chance determined? If not, what is it based on at all?

Is it rolled on every attack or only after misses?

What can and can't happen on a critical failure? Is there a severity table like the one for critical hits?

I couldn't find anything on this matter in the Wiki and the manual isn't very informative either. It only gives a list of effects:
Running out of ammo; Jammed Weapon (unimplemented?); Loss of AP; Dropped Weapon; Weapon Explodes; Hit Unintentional Target (frequent enough -- is it purely toHit-related?); Damage Self.

It doesn't explain how the roll works or when it is applied, apart from the probability being bumped up by a low toHit, how-ever that is accomplished.

Anyone have any inside info on this matter? I've gotten really curious.

Hi there, new guy here, but been lurking a while (mostly for Killaps excellent work  ). I don't know if anyone here is opposed to posting in old threads, but this thread asks what I thought to ask and replying here demonstrates that I used the search function first. So there :P

So I wanted to try the new RP with a Jinxed character. I reasoned that increased chance of critical failure only matter if you are actually missing, and thus that as long as I get high skill and stick to 95 % hits I should do all right. But now my character has 160 in unarmed with most hits showing 95 %, yet still I miss (critically) more than I hit. Meaning the 95 % is a lie with Jinxed.

I've found some critical miss-tables and many comments along the lines of what I thought; that you have to miss before you can critically miss. I tested a bit with a non-Jinxed character just to see, and then I hit and missed roughly as often as the shown % indicated. So my install ought to be allright (the RP-check stone at the start is right too). In case it matters. Haven't seen mentioned that the RP does anything with this aspect of the game.

So one thing is how does Jinxed work, really, when you get right down to it, but failing that, is it peoples experience that you do miss alot more with Jinxed than without? If my character is going to fall over every 2 rounds of 3 for the entire game no matter how high skill I get I think I'll rather try something else.
