First time out of the vault
I was looking to create a mod that enhanced the weapon repairing system... but I saw something in the "Suggestions" thread that seemed to suggest that Bethesda already did this. Perhaps the wording was just not very good, though, because I didn't see it in the game.
The mod I wanted to make would allow players with a repair skill of 75 or above to break down a weapon into component parts for the use of repairing other weapons at a later time. The goal being to decrease the weight in your inventory. Personally, at times when playing the game I found myself carrying an extra Combat Shotgun or Chinese Assault Rifle just so I could repair my main one after it gets badly damaged. Wouldn't you see, in a real life scenario, a gun expert taking apart the spare weapon and only bringing the components that are likely to break and necessary for repairs?
The way it would work is this. When your repair skill is high enough, you can enter the Pip-Boy's Weapons page and hover over the weapon. Underneath the option "R" for repair, you would have the option "D" for disassemble. You would then lose the weapon (let's say in this case it's a Chinese Assault Rifle weighing 7lbs) and gain an item "Parts: Chinese Assault Rifle" which would weight 2lbs and would then appear in the list if you tried to repair a Chinese Assault Rifle.
This could also play into weapon modification... for instance if one wanted to disassemble a Scoped .44 Magnum and put the scope on an Assault Rifle one could perhaps do so.
... anyway, let me know if any of you have heard of this or seen it. If you haven't, let me know if you think you'd use it.
