makes me MAD! i cant watch half of the youre the man now dog things since i installed that piece of shit. and the internet has no answer. at least the propositions simply dont work. to clarify, firefox doesnt even know it has the firefox plugin, since you cant direct download it anywhere and have to install the dam fucking player (and then using the options of the player to MIME and associate streams in your browsers to quicktime... how fucking intuitive is that, mr "oh i have so many usability awards that even my usability awards have received usability awards" Jobs?)

dejavu... i had bought me an ipod a year or so ago, and installed that horrible itunes piece of shit "software". tried some alternatives and workarounds to avoid this un-intuitive crap (that tended to lock up in the middle of an upload to the ipod). didnt work, sold the ipod, bought me a nice mp3 player from ALDI which worked perfect and had the normal "draganddrop your mp3 where you want it" explorer.

how can it be that a company which was often praised for its efforts and successes in usability creates crap after crap? why does every monster-codec (h264 etc) which is freeware (not to mention the elegant and slim classic media player) run smoothly, crash free, and is able to playback the weirdest combination of codecs while every piece of apple shitware clogs up your system, produces errors, and doesnt even give you the slightest hint what is going wrong except for linking to the SAME goddamn page everytime? damn! its like you go to a bookstore, but instead of receiving the desired book in textform you receive a 30-minute-compact disk on which tom green gives you an abridged version of it.

so... apart from ideas how to fix that annoyance i gladly embrace the idea of letting this thread derail into an apple-bashing of all sorts. go ahead!

Quicktime is shit, just never install it in the first place?

it'll save you some hassle later on, as illustrated above. :)

as for cleaning up the mess, try uninstalling the piece of shit and give the alternative codecs a go (like QuickTime Alternative). haven't tried the Quicktime ones, but RealAlternative works like a charm.

Never had any problems with Quicktime myself. Rather prefer it to WMP, and Quicktime videos seem better quality to me than most other codecs. Have you installed the latest versions of Firefox and Quicktime? You shouldn't have to mess with the settings much (other than to get rid of the annoying little taskbar icon that serves no function).

Also, been using iTunes for a long time to play music and upload songs to my iPod Shuffle. I don't really understand what could be unintuitive about it. You drag and drop from your iTunes library to the iPod. I have had some issues with it behaving strangely when updating my Shuffle, but I expect as much considering I've dropped the thing in the toilet, put enough force on it while it was clipped on my belt to bend the clip, and dropped it innumerable times. I'm impressed the little sucker still works after what I've done to it.

Just get VLC.
There's an option somewhere to make it play everything in your browser.

I got it for the exact same reason, annoyed with YTMND, and it fixed it.

There is a problem with this too of course. I couldn't watch any of Gametrailers' HD videos when I used it. Had to use flash video for everything on that site, which kinda sucked.

thanks man, that works like a charm!

i had fuxxored my computer, so i had to do a complete windows reinstall - and all quicktime residues were properly removed in the process. i think it was worth it

Yes VLC all the way. Quicktime is the biggest piece of shit out there... I honestly do not understand how that still exists. I can't remember a day in history when Quicktime was even tolerable...

You think you got it bad? My RealPlayer keeps spawning processes of itself for no apparent reason. I've had over 200 RealPlayer processes running at one time.

I don't know why it duplicates itself, but there ain't no damn viruses on this PC. Everytime I boot up my computie I have to manually end the "realsched" process in order to get rid of RealPlayer.
Dammit.

Use RealAlternative and QuickTimeAlternative, they take care of pretty much anything.
Unfortunately due to a weird relation between Cinema 4D and QuickTime I can only save .png files if I have the latter installed so I really need it, but most people can probably do very well without it.
