Dark Messiah of Might and Magic reviews

It's the best FPS from last 2 years, much better than Doom 3, HL2 Quake IV, FEAR and Prey. Not a master piece, but a funny game.
Floodgate Studios, from Paul Neurath, designed some levels, sound and game concept.

Paul Neurath was the Looking Glass founder.

Myeah, if you're into fighting minotaurs, goblins and other shit in a shiny environment. HL2 takes the cake in my book as the bestest FPS in the last few years.

7.5GB installation space?

DM offers an interactive environment and multiple options of killing your enemys.
In my opinion, HL2 was a poor game, the same FPS as always. 0 innovation.
Dark MEssiah, at least, offers some things from Thief 3, Arx Fatalis, Heretic II... and a good environment.

some nice gimmicks, a lot of SHINY (TM), but other than that? dunno.

it pales in comparison to it's predecessor.

but still, you might be right because the FPS's that were released the past years have been pretty meager gameplay innovation-wise: Far Cry, Doom 3, Quake 4, FEAR, that one with the indian that i can even remember the name of & so on & so forth...

Mostly, what I liked about HL2 was the setting. A totalitarian, Eastern Europe city with a lot of commieblocks. I had the feeling that I was running around Warsaw at times.

That's what I loved about HL2 as well. All in all I rather liked HL2. Doom3 was also a much better experience with the right mods. Quake 4 is being underrated while FEAR is being greatly overrated.

But you're right, FPS ain't what they used to be.

Anyway I just downloaded the demo of Dark Messiah so I'll try it out.

EDIT: Ok, tried it out. The 1.5 GB demo (installs to 2.7 GB) has two extremely short levels. The graphics are gorgeous and it runs pretty well (big plus), the melee combat is visceral and nasty and the physics stuff (kicking enemies, throwing them at spikes and throwing stuff at them) is much fun. But make no mistake, this game is no RPG (it's as much of an RPG as e.g. Jedi Academy is).

Installation is about 6.5 GB woithout multiplayer, which it's installed via Steam.

It's a FPS with some skills, but FPS.

Its not the best game ever but in comparison to what have been offered in the past two-three years its one of the most enjoyable.

This is my thoughts so far, im on lvl 9 or something.

+Very nice combat
+Very good looking
+There is a lvling system thats okej ( tho its very basic )
+interactive environment

-Kinda linear
-Maps are a bit "walled in"

Really? I thought the combat was a bit plain and repetitive.

In a way but compared to Oblivion it feels that you need to "aim more" and need to move smart in order to hit and avoid your enemys attacks.

There is also 3 different power attack. One from the left one from the right and one straight forward. Its random which one it will be etch time so i makes it some what more interesting.

And then there is a jump + power attack ( need a special sill for it ) and also the kick attack.

So there are a few moves to choose from and you need to be at the right place for the blows to hit. Its not often you see this so thats why i like it.

There is also allot of ways of killing your enemys without even using your sword so it makes it less repetitive if you choose to. I play as a fighter/assassin so id ay like at least 60% of my kills is caused by backstab :)

HL2 sucked.
Isn't this game supposed to suck as a Might and Magic game?

Well, yes.

Is anyone else having a horrible time trying to run it well? I finally got onto the second level with a fix from the forums, and turning down my textures to medium, but it keeps crashing the odd time on loading screens. Very annoying, as I had just started getting into it. It has become very frequent on the rooftop chase part.

The game crashed when i was loading the second map the first time.
And some times the after loading the starting menu it never showed.

But after this it has worked with no errors. I hear that it might help to turn down the texture quality as you say but i never had to do that.
