I got into the open fileplanet beta for Wh40K: Dawn of war yesterday! It's fucking great. Controlling most units from the WH40K universe in an RTS in full 3D (They missed a few crucial ones, such as the space marine chaplain and techmarine, and maybe the Eldar Harlequin). The best part is that it works on my PC! Anyone with a fileplanet account (I have a free account, you don't have to subscribe to be in the beta anymore) get this now!

This is a genuine gamegasm!!! I can't get enough of the beta and stayed up until 4 am playing it! You can design your own Space marine chapter too (I made Black Templars)!!

yeah, i've kept track of this game for a very long time now

both long range & CQB combat look awsome, you can zoom in and out at will, the shipping of troops is easy and the learning curve of the game is much better than expected for this type of games...

cant wait to see it go gold
 
Damn 56k modem, I'm halfway through downloading the Beta now.

Game looks great though, it's been on my list nearly since they announced it. Hope it all pans out.

They really do capture the 'look' of the units, I have loved the Space Marine's vehicle screenshots and concept art from the very beginning. It would be great if the gameplay was as good as the visuals.
 
It sure as hell is. All units have finishing moves. Imagine a Space marince dreadnaught picking up a dying Eldar and crushing him in his power fist, throwing the carcass aside. Or a Space marine Force commander jumping up on a nearly defeated Bloodthirster, crushing his skull with his mighty hammer then shattering his head while he is lying on the ground.

I actually run a server where we don't fight, instead we set up one-on-one arena fights with single units in the center of the map.
 
I got in and played it a bit, just seems like another RTS which bored me a bit. I should play more of it and see if it gets any better but I dont think it will. The graphics are good though.

I'm bored of RTS and this one doesnt change anything, it seems it still has the build as fast as you can and rush tactics. I really shouldnt be getting into a discussion about it because ive only played an hour of it.
 
This is the most fun RTS I have played since... I don't know. C&C maybe, it was cool because it had things I hadn't seen before, and I loved Orca raids, but I didn't like it half as much as Dune 2 or Warcraft and I pretty much stopped playing RTS while the AoE and C&C series dominated the market.

The detailed animations are just awesome. The Whirlwind is the most fun artillery I have seen in any RTS. A constant barrage of four units is quite an impressive sight.

Quite frankly though, I am not sure I am entirely happy about their decision to follow the traditional build-up style (isn't there a name for this in English?) rather than allowing players to choose armies in the beginning like the tabletop.
 
it sounds good to me. I don't do betas though. get too many bugs and crap. its crashed on alot of games before for no apparent reason other then to piss me off. I'm gonna keep on eye on this one. Far as I went with warhammer40k was the fan fiction. minatures are just too dam expensive for what i get (im still on my allowance and schools starting up so i aint got time to nab a part time job either)

Still. I'm hoping this one will be a great game when it comes out.

Temptation is a nasty thing. I just signed up for the Dawn of War beta and downloading the client as i edit this.
 
Anyone wants to play this thing online with me? It's great fun bashing the shit out of the AI.
 
maybe. the dumbass population has been starting to get to me. some guys kept advertiseing their game but it was a PW so folks didnt exactly have a clue how to join the game. then there was the pure dipshit community that gamespy has. about 10 people were just spamming trying to crash the lobby or something. taking a break for now... after 10 minutes of no luck trying to find one dam game to play and spammage all over the lobby.......ugh least the intermediate channles not spamtastic like beginner...

have a really old gamespy account that im surprised is still working (free of course). screen name in the lobby is Wedgiez, In-game is Milo (i kept typing random names into file planet to get my account there.)
 
It might be that the beta is full. You should've signed up a week ago. Don't worry, the game should be out in about a month or two.

You might try 8f95-9b27-cbe6-4520, which was posted on a forum when someone asked for an unused key. Several people had stated they aquired several keys for themselves before, these total bastards.

Of course I can't guarantee it's genuine, and maybe someone else is using it, although that shouldn't be a huge problem unless you try to play online at the same time. IF someone is using it. IF it's even a valid key.
