Debating about my car

Dixie_Rebel

Still Mildly Glowing
I own a 1985 Celica. Should I keep it? Is it work fixing up? As of now I have no other car and if I do get a new car instead of a truck it will probably be a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 and I can not offord either one right now.

Now onto my questions:

Here is what my car looks like (the following picture is NOT my my car but it is the same year and I do not know if the car in the picture is a GT Supra like mine. I am almost 100% sure mine is a GT Celica Supra.):

My Dad is a mechanic and owns a shop so working on the car is not going to really be a problem nor will it cost much. If I do fix up my car I was thinking of someones idea of putting an MR2 Turbo engine in it if it fits but I was thinking of maybe a 3.0 V6 engine from a Camry. Will it fit, even with a lot of work? I am guessing that it will not fit but I am asking anyway. My Dad is not home right now to ask so I decided to post about it. What else do you advise doing to it? I do not know a lot about cars but I am learning. These are only ideas.

Nice car. I'm not hiding anything.
EDIT: Sorry, once again I'm on 28 hrs. of no sleep. But atleast I have the courtesy not to attach my signature to eveery post in every thread!
Holy crap it's true! hicks do mod their cars into oblivion and strap confederate flags to the top!

1. I am not a "hick".
2. I do not have a Confederate flag on the top of my car.
3. The common stereotype for this car would be Mexicans driving this kind of car.
4. DO NOT HIJACK MY THREAD! Please stick to the subject. I did not ask for your opinion on whether my car is nice or not but thanks anyway.
5. Please get some sleep.

Oddly enough I like it. I Rarely, and I mean RARELY like Asian cars. It's got far and away more character than any of the fiberglass-coated, sticker-adorned, 8-ft wing, fluorescent-painted rice burners you see today. If I were you I'd keep it, especially if it has or can easily be fitted with those snazzy rear window louvers. I love those, but sadly I don't think they're made for a 1998 Buick LeSarbre.

As to the 4AGZ engine, what's in it now? 4AGE? (My ladyfriend has an MR2, so I know a little bit about Toyota motors) 4AGE is a solid engine, non-interfering, all sorts of other desirable qualities. You can't just bolt on the 4AGZ booster to a 4AGE, 4AGZ has a thicker block, etc, in case you were wondering.

Anyway, what else to do with it? Not much. Keep it looking nice, like the car in the photo is. When I see Asian cars of this age, they're either one of two things: Shit-buckets, or covered with doodads, stickers, and other extraneous crap. Keep it clean, original, maybe something minor to make it stand out, but nothing that says "Yahoo! Look at me! I'm an asshole!"

Your car has character, if nothing else. This is something that cannot be said for most late model vehicles. Plus it lacks all the electronics that the Man uses to keep track of the bourgouisie.

But that cherry red is horrible. Anything but cherry red.

Celica's are pretty good cars, especially from that year. I think they are better than the Nissan 200SXs or the Honda Preludes which are of similar class.

That said, the question is how much wear and tear. What are the miles on the car? I had an 88 Nissan 200SX that I had to put down two years ago when the damn thing just came apart. In the worst part of Richmond VA on a weekend to boot. A hellish story worth avoiding.

How much time do you have to put into the car? What is it worth to you?

If it's something you can spend money on, you might want to put more time into it and rebuild or refurbish and sell as a collector's piece.

My Celica is white.

The car has like over 200,000 miles on it. I think it would be an awesome car to fix up and I think it would be fun.

Welsh, I think it would be worth it and I have enough time.

Thanks for the feedback. Please keep the feedback coming. Some of my questions are still not answered.

Well I talked to my Dad and he does not seem to be excited about my idea about fixing up the Celica. But the good news is we get to build this car instead of fixing up my Celica:

I have waited since I was a kid to build this car. I hope you guys know what car this is. You BETTER know what car this is. lol

I just need to buy the base car. I can find a base car already in the U.S. for $6,500 with a 302 cleveland. I think I want a Chevy engine in it though but I can switch out engines if I need to.

BTW.... the base car used in the movie Mad Max is a 1973 Australian Ford Falcon XB Coupe. The base car that I will use might not be the base car used in the movie.

What the hell is that ugly chunk of metal sticking out of the motor compartment?

Plus, that is one fugly car. No style. No elegance. No grace. It's a cookie box on wheels.

Ugly. And wannabe-macho. Do yourself a favor, and try to talk your dad into fixing that Toyota.

That's the Mad Max Pursuit Special! "Last of the V-8 Interceptors!" That car holds a special place in the cold hearts of just about every post-apoc junkie there is. I so hope you're joking.

HAHAHAHA Jebus. I hope you are joking as well. That car would smoke a Toyota Celica (duh). I am hoping to get over 600 horsepower with that car, like in the movie. I will have an active blower (that "thing" sticking out of the hood) unlike a lot of replicas of the Mad Max car that I have seen. Trust me, this car is going to kick ass! I will try to keep everyone updated on my progress.

Don't switch to a Chevy in a Ford Car. That is the one thing I really can't stand. Anyway With the cleveland block you can get it stroked to a 427 cubic inch engine. that coupled with a good set of high flowing heads and the blower (supercharger) should get you the 600 horsepower you want. I would also think of getting a preformance cam.

No, really, I'm not kidding.

See, THIS is a nice car:

And THIS is a nice car:

And that car YOU have is just plain fucking ugly. It's square, ffs.

What's Wrong with square? I drive this:

and it's pretty square...

Jebus, the Jags are cool (of course), but the VWs??? And tha Audi just looks like someone stepped on a VW Bug...

All of Jebus's favorite cars look like dildos, I wonder why?

And the active blower is just a fany name for a turbocharger, right Dixie?

Nope. Sometimes the names are used interchangeably (Toyota MR2s that were labeled Supercharged were actually Turbocharged), but there is a small difference. The Supercharger compresses the incoming air, the Turbocharger compresses the air/fuel mix. It is much easier to design a switchable Turbocharger than it is to design a switchable SC, (Because the air/fuel mix changes when the Supercharger is on) which is why the prop car's SC doesn't do anything. Anyway, in the case of the Interceptor, if you plan on building it, a Supercharger will definitely increase performance.

Actually, the second one's an MG. I have just about the same one in red sitting in a garage somewhere, actually... All I need is to find a damn working carburator (and perhaps starter engine) for it that won't destroy me financially.

but the VWs???

Awww c'mon, the bug's a classic. Cosy car.

And my brother got a VW Passat from work... Thrust me, it rocks. Purs like a kitten, drives like a tiger.

And tha Audi just looks like someone stepped on a VW Bug...

Don't even think 'bout dissin' the TT, homie. It is the god of cars.
My nephew got one from his work; and thrust me, I haven't seen a car with a more beautiful interior to date. It's like heaven, all packed up in a nice iron wrapping.

But really: the reason why these cars are beautiful are the lines. Beautiful curved lines. Such beautiful curves they almost look feminine, but yet give off an aura of power and masculinity. They look like they could take off like a missile any second. These are the cars that make you feel like God on the higway. *

They don't look like somebody welded old refrigerators together and tried to put an engine that wouldn't fit into it so it would look tough.

*Well, 'cept for the Beetle then. That car's just cute.

Aha. So it's an MG... shouldda picked up on the logo. Those little tiny cars are kinda cool, in there own way, but I wouldn't want to deal with one on an everyday bassis. (Hell, my "normal" transport, a tank of a Buick, was in the shop for near a month, and even the 'Vette gets frustrating at times and it's not *that* small.) There was a little lymrick, something like:

There was a young fellow from Boston,
who spent all his cash on an Austin
There was room for his ass,
and a gallon of gas,
but his balls hung out and he lost 'em.

Right near me there's a Sunbeam for sale. Not everyday you see a Sunbeam. I'll admit that the VW Bug is a cult car; it's got personality and such, but the Passat? Just doesn't move me. That V10/TDI Tuareg (Or whatever) looks kinda neat, though. I still think the Audi (don't get me wrong, I *like* Audis) just looks like someone stepped on it. Just like the new Nissan 350z.
