Do I HAVE to install the fallout 2 patch?

Are there any game stopping bugs if I decide to skip the patch? I don't want to have to restart my character just to install the stupid patch. So does it get horribly bad without the patch... or not?

When you advance through the game, the savegames starts getting bigger and bigger. If you don't have the patch, loading a game would take some time.
If you're impatient, it would be better if you install it, it also fixes some scripts bugs.

If you have already started the game, there is a savegame converter from the old version to the new one. Since, the patch will make your old savegames unusable.

I down loaded the converter but iy says it can't find the save game directory.

I do have fallout 2 saved in a different directory than by default so I tried moving it into the Programfiles/Blackisle/fallout2 in the hopes that the program would then be able to locate it then but that didn't work. Is there anyway to direct the program to the saved files? it doesn't even open a window or anything.

Are you runnning the programme from the fallout 2 directory? By the way, you shouldn't just move files from your comp from one location to another because that way the information in your windows registry is no longer valid.

Yup I tried it from the Fallout 2 directory. And Yup I know about moving files as well, I just thought the program had it's own preset directory that was unchangable. After finding that the program still couldn't find fallout 2 I moved it right back
