DO NOT BE A "TOUGH GUY"

When making your character, there is an option to be a "Tough Guy". I wasn't able to figure out what this was by reading the manual. Since it's a check box under your character's model, I assumed that taking it would make your model bulkier and tougher-looking.
Luckily I pictured my character as kind of a nerd so I didn't take it.
I read in a review of the game that taking Tough Guy means that you will not be able to save in the middle of a mission! Horrible!

Okay, you can still be a "Tough Guy" if you want. I'm just posting this so that people who otherwise would have no idea (and a few days ago I would have fallen into this class) will be able to make an informed decision.

Best maximum happy fun forever

Thanks for the tip.

I thought the same thing, that the Tough Guy model would look similar to the one from Jagged Alliance 2 (used for high ST chars, Ivan, etc). Instead I find out it's "hardcore mode" ala Diablo II...

DAMN U GAME!!!!!

I was wondering why I coudln't save in the middle of a misson! God damn it!!!!!! I have restarted soo many missions because one person has gotten killed accidenly, jesus! And now I am on like mission, I dunno....the one where you being ambushed by the Super-Mutants while protecting the Nuke, and I really don't feel like going back....shit!! I wish it would have told me, I figured it was maybe like an attitude thing, ppl would be scared of you when they talked to you, or somthing....poo...I should have read the manual....

RE: DAMN U GAME!!!!!

Tough Guys get an extra 30% exp. It's worth it if you can beat a mission without saving.

RE: DAMN U GAME!!!!!

Don't people check the tooltips when they don't know what something does? I'm very glad that they included the Tough Guy option. Gives the game some real tension...

I honestly don't think it's anywhere in the manual ...

Holy crap. Does it tell you on the tooltip? Now I feel dumber than ever. I try to console myself ... I think Fallout veterans aren't used to tooltips ... especially during character creation where they know they can click on anything to bring up a detailed description of any stat, skill, etc. along with an adorable Pip Boy demonstration.
I honestly don't remember tooltips existing in Fallout 1 & 2. Damn my old reflexes!

Curses!

Tough Guy

This is a very bad option, as often as the game crashes on me I wouldn't have been able to get through any mission after #3 I suggest if you are playing for the first time not to take it to see if you can play through a few missions without crashing.

Actually, just don't take it period.
I've noticed that my stability gets
worse and worse as I get further and
further into the game.

RE: DAMN U GAME!!!!!

Saint, you IRC-fascist bastard! Well, anyway, I had lots and lots of crashing problems then I did full install and it never happened again and I'm on mission 5 now.

hey smart people...

guys relax. the reason they call it "TOUGH GUY" is that you have to be a TOUGH GUY to play with it on. If your a wussy momma's boy then don't try and be a TOUGH GUY. You'd think it was self explanitary....hehehe

Im just kidding. I too am and idiot and I tried to be a TOUGH GUY just like the rest of you. I made it through the first 3 missions but then i realized: the game is gonna get harder and ill never make it through as a TOUGH GUY; the missions take forever unless you really are a TOUGH GUY, which im not. And finally when i got the hummer, i ran over 3 of my dudes and realized that i was...uh... how do you say? fucked.

LOL....sorry...just something I find inherently funny in that. Kind of like when someone primes a proximity grenade in X-Com and then drops it in panic, then runs off...

RE: hey smart people...

I remember running over Frontline guy #2 and wondering how the HELL to get him out from the hummer until I made him somehow crawl in from the bottom and then get out the door... fucked. Good thing he took crappy damage because the hummer was slowing down when it whacked him.
