Do we know yet what kind of video card will FO3 need?

I've been hoping and waiting for a specs update to appear at http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43100 but so far no joy.

I am not an FP gamer and so I hope it's okay to ask the more technically knowledgeable about what kind of card (under $120 ???) might run Fallout 3 well.

Should a 2600XT or a 8600GT ($90/$95 at newegg) run this well?

Would a 9600GT, 9600GSO, or HD3850 ($115-$120 also newegg) provide a much better experience?

And while I hope this information is helpful for others my other specs are: E8400, 3GB, Vista, Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L (only 1xPCI-16) :-)

FWIW the same onboard graphics ran FO 1/2, Grim Fandango, and Civi4 just fine. What's this about requiring a killer video card anyway?

Thanks!

Can not confirm with a website link or w/e, but pretty low end will work ive read 2 or 3 places.

9600 will work more then fine, im useing 7600 gt (or 8600 gt friend just built it for me too) and im 1000% confident mine will work with no problem for this game. Actually when i read the articles i remember feeling that i would be able to jack up all the settings to max.

I started piecing my computer together at the begging of summer in anticipation for FO3.

Blood iron mobo
2.4 ghz quad core
7600 gt (got it on the cheap for 50 bucks)
2gig ram

this one should work about perfectly.

Sure but have you seen the price of vacuum tubes these days? Well beyond my budget. Any suggestions for under $120?

I had a vacuum tube calculator (about the size of two full sized microwaves) before I got married... as you can expect... it's gone now. I donated it to a museum along with a (tall 4-drawer) file-cabinet sized C/PM machine.

They both would have fit into FO3 better than mushroom cloud creating exploding cars.

Thanks you for the response.

I noticed a typo on my original post, but from your response it sounds like the 8600gt should be just fine for FO3 and that I can safely save $30.

Thanks!

That would make an awesome casemod.

I have an 8500 GT, so I should be able to run it, but I'll probably need to turn down the advanced graphics settings. I can easily run Half Life 2: Episode 2 at full settings, but Oblivion lags at even medium, so it will probably be the same way with Fallout 3. :(

Blah, in the face of bad news and/or closing in on release date I am now nervously and stupidly spending money. I just bought a 9800 gt ultra for God knows how much about 160ish and 4gigs of 800 ram to replace my crap 2 gig ram for 50 bucks.

Also after selling my Call of Duty 4 for xbox 360 to gamestop to pre order FO3 I just re ordered Call of Duty 4 for the pc through ebay for 30 bucks along with Bio shock for 20 bucks. Someone please stop me.

Has this happen to anyone else, in anticipation for a game so you spend money to get a fix?

And it seems that it was promptly moved into the "vats" section of the forum. The above information is correct and is not a lie as some admin so hastily thought.
That's because a) this was highly suspicious, b) this was probably illegal 'cause look at the release date. How's that for a thread worth vatting? Don't repost it, it's just gonna be deleted again. ;)
