Do you have a PS3? If so..

I was thinking of getting a cheap PS3 and The last of us since they won't release it on PC and i got the urge to play some older PS games!.

The problem is that after some searching the only games from the serie i want that are released on platstation was from the PS2 era.. I know the older PS3 was able to play PS2 games but i guess that is a nono unless i got lucky?

I also had a friend mentioning older games being downloaded trough the playstation store? Or is that just for the PS4?

Yeah that whole generation's SKUs were odd at the least with console manufactures deleting and adding features every couple of years.

If you want backwards compatibility with discs you are gonna wanna look for either a 40, 60, or early 80 gig "FAT" PS3. The 40 and 60s both had actually PS2 hardware on the board so they have the broader and better compatibility. The earlier 80 gigs up to the MGS4 bundle had software compatibility, most games worked but some were hit or miss. I think the MSG4 console bundle was the cuttoff point for software BC but its been years since I've thought of this.

There are a few PS2 games you can download from the PS Store under PS Classics for the PS3 but last I checked the library wasn't that huge. Take a look online on their store as they might have what your looking for there already and you can just buy any old PS3. Also keep in mind that every model of PS3 is BC with PS1 discs and downloads so if your interested in that too you wont have to worry about a specific model.

The PS4 is kidna sorta starting a program for BC but its extremely limited and poorly implemented, don't worry about it. lol

Hope that helps.

The last Sony console I owned was a PS2, back when it first released, waaaay back in 2000. Almost 17 years ago now!

Seems like the games are up on the PS store.. But when i click on them i got an error. So not really sure.

Might still be worth it to get a PS3 for cheap with the last of us.

Well yes, your going to need a PS3 regardless. If the PS2 stuff your looking for is on the store then all you need to do is find ANY model of PS3, those classics will run on every model of the console.

If what you are looking for is up on the store then its a Digital Download of the game, you are still gonna need the console to run it on.

Last of Us is worth the price of entry too IMO, that game is amazing. I ended up buying the comic, artbook and a whole lot more random crap after I ran through it a couple of times. lol

The games i was looking for was the few Fatal Frame games that was on the PS2. Currently looking around for a cheap PS3 but everyone seem to have 20 games and a ton of crap i won't ever touch.

I'm not sure what region your gonna use with your PSN account but on the US store Fatal Frame 1-3 are listed and are all compatible with the PS3 so you're set.

Just find whichever you can that is cheapest at this point, since they will all do what you need them too. If all you can find are people looking to offload their old games too all the better, your either gonna get some games you might not of bought but like anyway or you could sell them yourself to offset the cost of the console a bit.

If you really dont wanna deal with that you might wanna look into buying a model from ebay, or refurbished from a big chain store. Haven't looked but they have to be around 150 bucks by now for a refurbished model from someplace like newegg or something.
