Does Fallout: NV still freeze a lot on the PS3?

I was thinking of buying the Ultimate Edition, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea if the game still freezes like the way it did a year ago.

I have the Ultimate Edition for PS3 and it´s sort of okay-ish.
I´ve played about 45 hours now and the game froze two times on me.
I have minor problems with lag - a few hiccups here and there while exploring the wasteland, but if I´m inside a building/vault/cave etc. the game runs perfectly smoothly.
I´ve played one DLC so far - Dead Money - and haven´t experienced any problems with it.

One downside I did encounter is that sometimes, when you enter certain areas (McCarran and Westside) the game get´s suddenly VERY laggy, as in you can´t even walk forward without watching a diashow.
In that case you have to quit the game completely and then load a save, that resolves the issue.
This happened to me about five times as of now.

So there are some annoyances, but playing the game is perfectly possible.
Just don´t use an already existing save - the handbook says it´s possible, but it leads to major problems. I´ve tried it out.
If you delete every existing save- and game data on your system and start completely new you should be okay.

It is a shame that NV runs so poorly on the PS3. Skyrim runs perfectly fine on it and that only makes me dislike Bethesda even more because NV could run just as well if they'd wanted it to. Swines.

Having never bought an Ultimate Edition before I have to ask: Is it already patched?

Skyrim runs fine? Really? I thought about buying it, but the boards were full of people who complained that the game is un-playable on PS3 if the save games exceed a certain size, so I decided against getting it.
Has this issue been resolved by now?

As for the patches, I can´t say for sure - I assume they are included because there was no patch-download when I istalled the game, but I will look it up when I get home today to know for sure.
I really doubt though that they are NOT on the disc, that would be highly unusual - I haven´t even thought about it before you asked.

I've heard about the lag issues on Skyrim for PS3 users and it was apparently addressed in the 1.4 patch but I only had a couple minor slow downs when it was first released. I've had large save files with no issues at all. Luck of the draw I guess.

And my guess is that the patches are included, especially since you didn't get a DL prompt. I could have looked it up I guess but hey, if we look up everything ourselves we run out of things to post about. ;)

Yes, the patches are included - it doesn´t say so in the manual or game-information though.
Good to know that Skyrim is now "officially" playable and doesn´t require a lot of luck to run proberly.
When I´m done with New Vegas I´m going to give it a shot.

But you´re right... it is annoying that they abandoned Fallout NV.
If they finally discovered how to adress the issue their games have when being played on a PS3 it wouldn´t be such a huge undertaking to fix it.

Wow, I totaly forgot about this thread. Well, it's pretty much how I thought it would be. Such a shame, because Fallout NV is an awesome game.

Now, having played for more than 80 hours, I have to revise my original post.
The lag issue gets worse and worse... I still don´t have a problem with freezes - looks like they really did patch that - but the lag simply ruins the game.
As it is now, I have to restart NV approximately every 2 hours.
Playing like that just isn´t fun anymore - I think I will sell my copy and buy a game that actually works instead.
You´re right, it´s a shame that such an awesome game is so broken on the PS3.

It isn't as bad as it was. Make sure to turn off autosave and then just save often. Makes things much smoother.

I´ve been doing exactly that - and more - since I´ve started the game because I wanted to avoid the issues I´m having now.
I´ve turned off auto-save from the start, created a new savefile everytime I save and never used V.A.T.S.
After starting to have more and more lag issues I´ve installed the game completely new and even tried the save-trick, but to no avail.
Funny thing is the original version of New Vegas, with most of the patches installed, ran pretty smooth, it´s the Ultimate Edition that causes problems.
Sadly I don´t have the original... I´ve borrowed it from a friend and waited for a complete edition before buying.

I´m glad for you though that your copy seems to play fine, sadly that isn´t the case for me.

Lousy that the Ultimate Edition lags worse. There are certain areas that I almost always have issues (Gomorrah, BoS Bunker, Red Rock Canyon) but I try to do get those out of the way early, before the save file size hits 10MB and that works well for me.

I would always have to load a game with Hardcore mode on (because I wanted to play in Hardcore mode), then load the 14MB game I had to get my game to open in Hardcore mode, which was eventually near impossible to do without major freezing. No way of keeping the file size down from what I know.
