Does it need to make paper journal for old school rpg?

for me fallout 1,2'sa journal is somewhat unfriendly to me.
compare with morrowind, I can see every dialogs and progress but in fallout, if I lost dialog there's no way to remind it.
So I think it would be useful to make paper journal to record significant dialog and progress of quests.
but other old school game like wasteland and other games,
should I prepare paper journal?
Or any experience with paper journal?
 
I remember taking a few notes when playing Wasteland (a very old school RPG) and Fallout. It's up to you, there's probably no need for a fully fleshed out journal but instead maybe an A4 sheet.
