Doorway blocked by NPC

First time out of the vault
I'm in Vault City and I was exploring some buildings, when Cassidy decided to stand in front of the door. He won't move and I can't leave the room. I already saved inside the room so that isn't an option either. This is sufficiently retarded, and I would be extremely grateful for any help with this because if it turns out I have to start over AGAIN, then I give up on this game.
 
You can push people. Click on Cassidy, hold down the button and the drop-down menu appears, one of the option is for pushing the NPC.

Incidentally, of course, this is also revealed by searching the forum.
