duke nukem forever-optimistic approach...nah not really

That may be the vaguest interview I've ever read.

Meh. I'm not holding my breath, but hopefully it'll be good when and if it comes out.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that this game will never see the light of day.

Because they've been working on it for about 8 years with nothing to show for it except a series of increasingly vague dates regarding it's release.

Yeah, I'm getting kinda worried about Fable and HL2 too. Although Fable is on its way out, even though horribly delayed (it's stupid to release games in late summer. No time for gaming when school/work starts).

There were also two DNF trailers. Besides, how do you know they've nothing to show, rather than simply don't want to show anything yet? That's a big assumption you make. Keeping your game secret and hype it about 3 months before it's release is rather normal, especially after series of release date fuck-ups.

With a normal game I'd agree - but they started hyping this around 1998, and Broussard (the guy in charge) has made some ridiculous comments along the way, as well as going from "DNF will be the greatest game of 2000!!!!" to "it'll be done in a few more months" to "it'll be done when it's done". IIRC, they've killed and restarted this project many times and gone through hiring and firing teams of designers. This isn't rocket science, it's a first person shooter - it took Id about 4-5 years to come out with 3 Quake games (and engines), yet DNF, after 8 years, is still "in development". Games just don't take that long to make, no matter what kind of game it is.

For an easy comparison, picture the current Half Life 2 wackiness - incredible hype, then delay, then released date pushed back, then release date undetermined, while everyone is wondering "What the hell is taking them so long?". Now picture yourself in the year 2009, and the Half Life 2 team is still saying "We've just got to put some finishing touches on the game - trust us, HL2 is going to be game of the year, 2010!!!". That's where Duke Nukem is today.

Let me guess. Romero made you his bitch, right?

For fuck's sake, people, how the hell CAN you be optomistic for this game? They've gone through and been dropped from more publishers than most development houses ever publicly deal with. Can you say "milking"?

Montez : Yeah it's taking damn too long, I agree.

Now picture yourself in the year 2009 (..) That's where Duke Nukem is today.
AFAIR 3DR went underground with DNF around year 2000 and have not revealed a single bit of information (well, nothing really important) about it since. So, in my opinion, DNF today is more like:

- Guys, any news on this DNF thing?
*silence*
- ..Anyone?

But anyway, crap game or not, I don't see why it won't get finished for now.

I think they made it, but the engine got older and they renamed it to "Manhattan Project".

Now they're keeping the fame hoping that someday they will make it.
