I think I got the Masticator's ear once, but I don't recall losing my own.

I think the chance of getting Mastificator's ear doesn't depend on the unarmed skill, I got his ear once with unarmed only 115. I think it depends on how succesful you hit him. But is there really no use for it in the game?
By the way, there is a small tip for boxing or another unarmed challenge: hit your opponent in the arms and try to cripple it, then he is unable to fight back and you just knock him down by kicking his legs, so he falls. And when his is on the floor
, you kick him in the eyes ( you have perfect aiming, 'cause he's unable to dodge ).
That way you very probable will bit his ear off if you are really hungry, because I would rather take his heart out
