Ears

i think it would be cool if you cut peoples you kill ears off

like have different names for each person in the game, and when you kill them, and get their ear, the info for the ear is like "Raider Snake"

or something like that

anyone think so?

I'm not too keen on the idea of walking around with a library of ears in my back pocket.

However, it would be nice to see hearing abilities factored into the gameplay. Perception should affect how well characters can hear things. This would especially interest me as I could make a character that fits my real life persona.

EDIT: On second thought, if there's any sensory loss it should be a trait choice instead as you never really lose your overall perception. Visually impaired folks generally have better hearing and us deafies generally have better visual perception than normies.

In other words, a deaf character wouldn't be able to hear somebody talking behind him, but he'd have better periphial vision and spot incredible details by looking at things. They'd also have a bonus in reading body language.

A blind character wouldn't be able to spot something lying on the ground or anywhere else, but they'd have an incredible sense of hearing and would be able to tell details about sounds that other characters couldn't. Most likely they would also have a slightly lower rate of walking. Generally speaking visually impaired people also have a higher perception of verbal communications as well.

Does this sound good or is it just needless detailing?

Maybe if you had the gecko skinning perk, you could save a person's skin too and make some lamp shades and clothing? I dunno, it seems minor and unnecessary.

Well, read it dammit.

I basically said that it didn't really add any depth to the game and then I proceeded to add a completely different suggestion to the game. It still involves ears, but in a completely different direction.

What do you think about my post now?

Like I said....

I changed my mind about making it a perception issue. It should just be a trait instead. They would be traits that alter exactly what and how you percieve things rather than fiddling around with different perception slots for each sense in the character creation process.

What about now?!?!

I dunno. I don't think anyone would choose a trait that would make you handicapped. Even if it boosts your perception. Sorry. Maybe we could add a wheelchair perk to market towards the handicapped demographic?

:violent:

Being deaf wouldn't be a handicap. It's only changing how your character percieves things in the wastelands.

And a wheelchair perk is just friggin' stupid. We already have eye damage and broken legs in the game. Why not just make blindness and deafness permnament in a character?

Mike like ears? Bunny, you've been playing way too much Diablo!

Ozrat- Silent Storm takes into account temporary deafness which prevents your character from hearing enemies moving behind obstacles that prevent line-of-sight. I suppose one could choose to play a crippled character from the start, but what's the point?

We could take this concept further: to improve the role-playing experience, you hear no sound if you play a deaf character, and you see a blank screen if you play a blind character. Dialogue could even be affected; suppose your character receives a critical hit in the nose, "he gould speag lige zis".

*sigh*

Once again, being deaf isn't the same as being crippled! :violent:

No, if you're blind, you'd still see the map and everything, but it would probably take you a little longer to walk through it and you surely wouldn't be able to percieve the traps lying around you. You wouldn't be able to see a nifty gun lying on the ground, but your NPCs would and probably would be able to find and get it for you.

Please accept my apologies Ozrat, I didn't mean to offend you. When I wrote "crippled", I meant "physically diminished". EDIT: I really meant "deaf, blind, heavily visually impaired, heavily impaired in the hearing department, or generally possessing reduced efficiency in at least one of his senses", unless this is still offensive to you, Ozrat, in which case said post should be buried at sea and forgotten about. Sincere apologies. [/EDIT]
I think your idea is a good one, I'm just not sure why anyone would want to create a character with such a trait, or at least if the number of people likely to use it is high enough to warrant spending time coding it; on a side note, someone must have thought "Bloody Mess" was a good idea too, but who uses it?
Also, following your idea, would you then make "ears" a new location for critical shots? It would prevent enemies from hearing your NPCs walk around them to shoot them in the back.

You just don't get it, do you? :violent: Being deaf has nothing to do with physical capabilities.

This was actually something that came up in the book for the film The Big Red One, in which Arab scouts are collecting the ears of Germans as a means of psychological warfare, with a booty on ears paid for by the Americans. Except the arabs start collecting american ears too.

But I don't see the point here.

yea well

there is no point to this actually at all

just that id would be a cool feature in the game

yea i used to play diablo D:

but was actually not even thinking of it when i thought of this

Anyways, to summarize my idea in case any devs are looking at this...

Blindness and deafness wouldn't be from lowered perception, but rather being traits instead.

All it would to is put permnament modifiers on sight, sound, and the other variables I mentioned.
