Edit/Add background to a currently existing character

Gia Thai

First time out of the vault
I read some of the post about adding a background to your character. THe problem is I Am playing and I dont want to replay again those first and second campaign. The question is:

Can I add background/ bio/ story/ whatever to my character without having to restart the campaign? And how?

Thanks in advance

Only if you're using an unmodified prefab. If so just edit the characters.txt, from locale_0.bos and place it in core\locale\game.

Otherwise if you've modified a prefab or created a character from scratch then no can do.

And why didn't you just post on the end of the thread you were reading?

Gia Thai, this is the second time you reference another thread WITHOUT EVEN LINKING. We're not seers, and we certainly don't have a history of your perusing NMA stored, so please, do link to threads you're referencing.

Ah, sorry, my bad.

If I remember right, both those topic were in another forum of another website, they discussed modding. I didnt even remember the website, and googled doesnt help one bit. So, well... sorry for the inconvenience. I will try to restrain in future.
:?
And some more questions in term of not so much modding as nosing around:

Is there anywhere in the core folder to find info about books: how many % they give, do they depend on the skill level and INT...

Is there anywhere in the core folder to find info about reputation: outside of mission objectives, what are the actions to cause decrease in reputation. The ghouls, they appear in encounter map as hostile, if I kill them, will there be a decrease in karma/ reputation (I checked in the game, but problem is, if there is a decrease, it's minuscule so it's hard to detect)

I'm sure there's a guide around somewhere, but just open them in the entity editor and have a look.

IIRC though, there are no requirements, but you can only use 12 books to increase each skill per character, tagging makes no difference, nor does intelligence. First 4 books give 15% each, then 13%, 9%, 6%, 4%, 2%, 2%, 1%, 1%. I haven't tried it with the comprehension perk (assuming that works) but if a character reads more than 12 books for the same skill they'll be wasted.

It's not written down anywhere as far as I know. If someone is hostile there's no rep penalty for killing them unless they started neutral or friendly. IIRC it's a 100 point penalty for every neutral/ally you kill.

One other thing that might affect the amount you get from each book is when you read them. If you've already got say 150% in small guns you probably won't get the full 98% bonus from reading 12 gun mags as you would while reading them with only 50% in the skill.
