Ekarderif registered to let us know that one Devin 'Mimir' Herron has made a Fallout single-segment speed run in 11 minutes and 17 seconds. You can watch the video here at www.planetquake.com.

This is sweet. DLing the vid (though on dialup itll take me closer to 12 hrs..........)

Oh, howcome the origonal topic on this was deleted ?

I decided to delete it because it was in the wrong spot. Was going to move it but Silencer posted already :P.

78% dling ;)

EDIT: OK so we've got this matter cleared up...I've removed the now useless link

1 post and you fear Roshambo already? ;)

Welcome to the forum!

(94% dling ;))

At least he is smart enough to know what to fear from post 1.

And he comes bearing gifts.

As long as he aint greek that oughta mean hes a good potentel member.

Watched it.

Quite surprised at his picking Outdoorsman (Fallout 2 habits? That skill was profoundly useless in Fallout)

It was kind of a cliffhanger , too, when he got out of the base and got this encounter  ( you got mutant encounters in that region all the way, even after the destruction, haven't you?)

Also, couldn't he have just lockpicked all the doors in the cathedral? Stealing was kind of risky, he could have boosted lockpick instead . And why hasn't he tagged Speech? It'd reckon it to be helpful with Jeremiah and the Mutants.

(I guess he couldn't , I just checked that the mutant with the gatling gets pissed off if you lockpick the second door.)

Im going to DL it later.

It would have took me 18 hrs at present rate, my ISP likes to randonly fart on its dialup customers (dumo dialup connection speed to 20/30k randomly), then tell the, DSL is the solution if you call and complain.

I believe I can answer these (as I recorded it :P).

He claims it helps him. I really wouldn't know :?. Plus, nothing else to tag.

If you move out of the desert and onto the mountains to the southwest, the mutants won't appear any more. So, it's not as great as it seems :P.

The only speech check necessary in the whole run was the super mutant waiting outside of the base, and even that is optional since you can combat sneak out if it fails (which it usually doesn't fail, mutants aren't too bright).

I was a little disappointed at his use of the combat mode glitch/cheat. Not sure why he didn't use it for encounters as well; in that case he would have nothing to fear from mutant patrols. In a speed run I suppose all's fair, though. Nice touch to use the nuke key in combat mode, although using a skill and immediately pressing A should have accomplished the same.

Well, obviously it could mean one or two encounters fewer.

He could also have used Lockpick on the bookcase instead of Traps.

Not if you wear the Robes. It would help to leave the Cathedral faster by talking to Jeremiah, though.

So, should I edit the news post again to explicitly say that you recorded it? :?

Does it?

I did lockpick it with Robes and he attacked (it may please you tho know that he failed to kill me :D) However, I neglected to dispose of the party members, so that must have triggered the attack.

Oh well. Winners are not to be judged ;)

Nah, it doesn't really matter. I just want this run to get the attention it deserves :P. If lockpicking does indeed work on everything, I'll prod him into doing another run since it'll be the only skill necessary to complete the game.

Edit: My god that's perfect. I just did a test run and there's no other random factors besides the encounters. This should yield sub 10 minutes easy. I'll contact him right now about it :P.

that was bloody amazing, the games meant to last like 60-100 hours, i never knew about that key or computer being able to blow up the cathedral, i always fought the master

Ekarderif, could you possibly change your signature into something that doesn't distract as much while reading? Just asking, I could also switch off animations altogether in my browser.

And you might want to know that Germans might see your avatar as ... uhm ... questionable, seeing how it's a derivate of the swastika.

Not sure if a triskele counts as "evil". As a modem user I'm more concerned about 45k avatars...

Oh, you have no idea. In Germany the public display of swastikas of ANY kind (including triskeles) can result in a prison term unless it's for documentary purposes.
