ERROR???(fallout)

Kahgan

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
i just started playing fallout one more time...im in shady sands, but some people just say error, like when i talk to tandi i get this:

tandi says:
error

i can say:
error
error
error
error

same with razlo, and the people walking arround has error as floating text WTF???

This means that the scripts that were supposed to show dialogues refer to erroneous or non-existent lines in the datafile. You must have had sth messed up with the *.DAT files. Reinstall.

Am I to assume this is a program that writes the CD image to your HDD and reads it from there?
I've used a similar program myself and found that it just refuses to work for certain games.
It might not be needed anyway. On FO1 if you do a full (humongous) install, then you don't need the CD in the drive (that's certainly how it is on my copy (UK Full violence edition).
Anyone else find this?

yeah i know but i have NT file system so the damn installation program thinks i only got 88 megs of free disc space :x

I remember it trying that with me once, but I just installed anyway.
Worked just fine.

In that case, have you tried to install it using the Windows NT/XP/2000 manual installation method?

well, if i press humongous installation, drive D disapares....
Try normal installation, then manual copy the master.dat and critter.dat to the game dir, then edit the locations in config file?

That's not part of that manual installation method. That's why there's a link to the installation method in the ALL-CAPS sticky post. I would also suggest that you take a look at the comments on the article, as they have some helpful advice, especially when Epilogues are skipped over.

I've seen a similar problem with the people who show up in the Boneyard to help you wipe out the regulators. They simply give the word "Error" when the mouse is hovered over them... Odd. I've never seen it anywhere else.

I seen it when I wacked the Regulators and then brought the Blades to help. They just stayed there...
