1) Does the game /really/ split experience between squad members? I ask because I left all the recruits behind and went trolling for random encounters, hoping to level up my main character. Such encounters /hardly/ provided much experience.
I haven't done the math, though, to determine whether or not 2 characters each get half the experience... Anyway, trolling didn't work very well for me.
Oh, and the special encounters I've seen so far have been pretty darn worthless.

2) Does the Swift Learner perk work? I ask, because Farsight and I both still have the same amount of experience. Either it doesn't work at all, or it works for /all/ the members of the squad. Any ideas?

Well, it has to get split, I mean, how else does your doc level up?

Stitch is the quickest leveller because he gets an exp bonus every time he heals someone with first aid or doctor. Hmm...I might have to think about that for my main character next time...

Experience Explained.

It's based on the same idea as FO and FO2 - you get xp. every one in your party gets the same xp (poorly implemented for the first two). So you kill a radscorpion you get 11 xp. If you have 5 people along they all get 11 xp. If you have only one he gets 11 xp. The only non-party xp I've seen is first-aid, doctor and repair. I've thought seriously about trying to use those on my main character but unless you have a high first-aid skill you will injure your victum...er subject, I'm not sure what low repair and doctor skills will do besides eat up valuable resources. So always bring your full crew along for the ride (unless you just don't want the hassle), it won't change your xp.

As a seccondary issue everyone in the recruit pool when they fall more than two levels below your main character will level up. (I.E. your main is 7th everyone in the pool will be a minimum of 5th) Normally the computer distributes skill points and chooses perks for those in the recruit pool, but under certain circumstances you can pull out the recruit and level him up yourself. I've been able to do this with Kevin for repair skill, I pull him out every time I'm back and have him repair my vehicle, and he levels up (if I did) when I pull him out. I've been unable to duplicate this with any other recruits though.

Thanks!
That sucks! I've wasted a Perk!!
Well, I guess I need an editor or the patch, then...

Yeah, the whole leveling up of folks in the pool thing has me rather confusipated. There's only one or two of them who seem to level up. Also, it seems to me that if you don't catch them before they hit a level where they gain a Perk, they don't get one. That is, there's level 8 guys in my pool who only have one Perk, and I'm not given the option of picking another Perk for them when I pull them out of the pool. Oh, well.

RE: twirly up spikey sauce

One thing to watch out for is that when swapping people into/out of the recruits pool, they sometimes lose their experience. It's a known bug that happened to me once, so I restored my last save and haven't bothered much with the new recruits. So now I have my character, Farsight, Stitch, Jo, Trevor, and Stein. We're all level 17 and we're all on mission 14. And they're all doing quite well. I figure my party fits in pretty well with the supremecist attitude that the General sports. :)

Incidentally, I'm still really pissed that none of the other recruits gain ranks. Farsight has killed twice as many creatures as any other recruit, and yet she's still an initiate!? WTF is up with that? Not like it really matters, but your characters do seem to change graphics based on rank. At least, my character in PA looks different than Farsight in PA - could be a sex issue as well, I suppose. Not that you could tell whether it's a man or woman in the PA.

RE: twirly up spikey sauce

I'm not really sure what's going on now, I was going to swap out jo for stien, jo is lv 15, when I first looked stien was 9 th, then I was thinking about it so I came back later and stien was 5 th. It seems to work best on leveling up if you take the person out every time you get back to the bunker, and leave a weapon in their hand, I think they get the same xp as you do at that point forward. the three I've been taking out and puting back regularly are stumpy (gambling), kevin (repair & barter - I added barter), the ghoul woman with steal, her steal is at 190+ and rarely gets cought anymore, she has also indipendantly leveled up to 13th from where I originally took her out. kevin has been keeping up with me in lv. and was last 15 th lv, I've however dumped him as I gave stich repair tag since it is usefull on missions, and I gave stumpy barter so I can go gambling and barter with one guy.

The not gaining rank is supposed to be fixed with the patch, but that worries me, what if you sqrew up somewhere and loose some rep and rank, then your people are higher rank than you?
