Extreme noobish question about Steam

Maybe you can use a cd-key/registration code to tie the game to your steam account.

Or maybe it's possible to get the DLC elsewhere. Check the game's official site.

I doubt you can buy them from the steam page without having the game on your steam account though.

Maybe try asking on steam forums too?

I bought it on a third-party site, and it works fine on Steam. They send you a CD-key that you activate.

If you bought it second hand though, there's a good chance you've been had. You've bought a worthless disc if someone else has already added it to his steam account, as far as I know. Heard it happen before over at totalwar.org.

yup

2nd hand games for PC do not work anymore

either they already tied the CD key to their steam account and realized they do not need the CD anymore as its a "steam" game and want to make money off people who do not know how the DRM works.

or

they created an online account with X service and cd keys are uniqe on that site. and they already created their account. and want to make some money off people who do not know how the DRM works.

or

they are selling the game without tying the CD Key to the account and its legit and you will get full use out of the game.

2/3 chances you got screwed.

Hey guys, i its not second handed, i already bought games from this guy before, its all brand new :D, but what i am worried about if i will be able to install the expansion and DLC's (all steam-only).

EDIT: found this on wiki:

On 28 October 2008, it was announced that the game would be released on Valve Corporation's content delivery system Steam on the official release date of 6 February; the game requires Steam to install and run for both retail and electronic versions and is integrated into Valve's Steamworks programme to allow updates and multiplayer to function more efficiently

I guess this pretty much nails my question.

Anyway, thank for you time everyone :)
