F01 - toggle off the time limit

Hi. Thanks for a great question.

Which is the time limit you speak of? There are a bunch of timed events in Fallout.

The time limit to find the Water chip - well, disable that by finding the chip.

One time limit (a few hundred days I think) was never implemented, so you don't have to worry about that.

There's also a hard-coded limit, of 13 years, I think, which is due to the variable scope for the time couner.

However, you should have searched the forum more, for example, the help and modding fora for "time limit"

This might have led to the discovery of this thread, for example.

Well there was an *overall* game limit at one time (beyond the water chip quest, that is). However, I think the last FO1 patch removed that limit.

I want to play Fallout 1 without a time limit

Hi guys, i got Fallout many moons ago and it looked so good but I was massively put off by this whole time limit thing, i like to take my time, especially on the map. Anyway, its been out years now and I was wondering if there is any way to turn it off, i must have started fallout 2 about 50 times but i never finish it, so id like to play fallout 1 fresh. Can anyone help me out? cheers

Search the forums, and you'll find this thread which should really answer all of your questions. In fact, any kind of search would've given results, as would looking at the files section, which would've given you this result, which gives you the option to play on after the end game.
Furthermore, this is also posted in the wrong forum. Really, you did almost everything wrong.

I'll move this to the modding forum, however, since there really is no solution for removing the water chip time limit.

im confused, those threads arent helpful. I thought there was a limit of 13 years to get the chip before everyone dies and then after that theres no time limit to finish the main quest right? Well i dont want the 13 year time limit for the chip, so i either need a trainer or some coding right? or does the 1.1 patch remove the limits altogether? sorry for being a n00b

1. Yes, there's a 13-year time limit before the game ends, and

2. It's not removable, at least I don't know of anyone who's been able to do it.

No, it doesn't. The time limit doesn't restrict you, unless you have no idea where to find the chip. Even then there are a lot of clues as to where it can be found. You can also buy extra time.

Personally, I've never really understood why some people find the Water Chip time limit so stressful in FO1. They give you about twice the amount of time you really need (yes, even on the first playthrough), yet it gives the quest a sense of urgency and relevance.

FO2 has basically the same thing with the slowly dying Arroyo. The only difference is that FO2's version doesn't result in a game over.
