F1 devouring system resources?

I think something is wrong here, when I minimize the game and look at the task manager the game is literally taking up to 200 mb ram and around 90% processor power? while F2 doesn't have this problem and takes only 20 mb ram and almost no CPU power.

Anything i can do to fix this? i have the official patch installed.

I tried running the game both with win 98 compatibility turned on and off. doesn't change anything.
