F1: reloading ammo

Misterer

First time out of the vault
How exactly does ammo reloading work?

If I want to make sure I use the same type of ammo all the time even if I have other types in my inventory as well, do I always have to drag and drop the ammo in the inventory screen? Or is there an easier way?

What type of ammo does reloading with the weapon button load? Random/First in the inventory/Last used? Does it matter if I put some ammo type in the secondary item slot? Will it be used all the time until it runs out?

I've read the manual, but it doesn't cover this in detail.

Last used in the current weapon, if you have any.
Are you sure it's always the case?

The manual said:
Reloading can happen one of two ways: you can access invento-
ry, and drag the proper ammunition to the weapon to reload it, or you
can do a reload action from the active item button on the interface
bar. The first method is slower, but you get to choose the exact ammo
loaded. The second method is a little faster, but if your gun is empty,
you get whatever type of ammo is readily available that will fit it.
It seems you'll get random type of ammo if you reload without accessing the inventory. I'm not sure though.

things written in the manual actually proved wrong few times, so I'd trust Per on this one

I'm not entirely sure, but it should only take a minute to test.

I'm pretty sure that a weapong remembers the "last used" ammo, to the point that 10mm pistols or Assault Rifles that had been loaded with AP and JHP and then emptied will stack separately on the inventory screen.

The description in the manual refers to the fact that the ammo type will be chosen automatically, with preference to the last used ammo type for that weapon, and if unavailable, with another ammo type for that weapon.

Look at an empty gun in your inventory. For example an SMG reads "0/30 10 mm JHP", or "0/30 10 mm AP" depending on which it was loaded with last, and when clicking "reload" the gun will be loaded with the same ammo used previously.

At least this is the way F2 works. Metzger's gang is a good example of this. You get several 10mm pistols as loot when you kill them. Emptying the guns leaves you with two stacks of 10mm guns in your inventory, one JHP stack and one AP stack. It's kind of annoying actually.
