F2 - Application error - help needed

Unfortunately I’ve encountered a serious problem with FO2… When leaving a map or entering one, the screen goes black with a Windows-sound… I cannot even alt-tab, it wont switch tasks properly, but this way I can see that it says “application error: C:\games\fallout2\fallout2.exe ……….” and that’s all I can see. I have XP with FO 1.02 installed (large installation - I'll try tonight whether it also occurs on humongous as well, but I'm afraid it will). It also happened earlier (I played the game about a year ago, now I’ve installed again to play, checked my old char (lvl 21) and also this happened… I’ve began a new char (now lvl 11), and upon leaving the Raiders’ base it occurred (I’ve just gone to the Den from VC for the car, then to the Raiders)… Then I’ve reloaded the game, went for the car, tried to stop at a random location and error again… So I went straight to Redding (missed out the raiders as well as the car in the Den) and it seems to work… But is it in connection with the car? Will I never be able to pick it up? Or sooner or later will this bug eventually happen, no matter whether I have the car? :
I don’t think I’d have too many items, I’m cautious and kept worthy weapons mostly…
Please help, it’s really ruining my game, as I’m concerned all the time that I’m playing in vein ‘cause this error will prevent me from finishing it anyway…

Ps: before someone blames me, I’ve done a search through the forum, and found no correspondent topic with proper solution…

Ps2: did you notice that in case you take away the Rot Gut Cassidy’s carrying he’ll say all the time that “Sure could use a drink”?

Sometimes I suffer from the same problem too. I do not know anything deep about its reason, though.

I suggest that you should try to "change" something, like exchange your items or drop them in the car trunk, enter the character scene, use some of your skills(eg first aid or doctor), and save/load in a new slot. That MAY help.

And, try to get the car, then leave the Den on your foot and come back, try different ways of them. At last, wish you a good luck. Remember that you need to save a lot...
