RPGVault have posted their second interview with Carsten Strehse, not alot we haven't heard before but....
Jonric: What will make The Fall stand out from other RPGs of the current generation? What kind of gamer will it appeal to most strongly, and why?

Carsten Strehse: Well, The Fall will be the first 3D role-playing game with what we call an end-time scenario, so it's definitely interesting to everyone who likes games like Wasteland (who remembers?) and Fallout as well as fans of Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind. The biggest difference when comparing The Fall to other 3D RPGs is the real living world with its unique characters, the very creative quests and the new combat system, which will set a new standard for party-based RPGs.
Link: Fall interview2@RPGVault

Big talk, but do they got biiig cajones?

which will set a new standard

I don't trust any gamemakers who claim that their game will "set a new standard" or "change the industry."

Well that was probably was an over exaggeration, but I'm still looking forward to the game.

It's comments like that which build hype for your game. It also gets you flamed to no end. Look at Bioware and the Neverwinter Nights dealio.

Speaking of which, it's a game that appeals to Wastelanders, Fallouters, Morrowinders, and Neverworthit Nighters? Hmm, I just don't trust that statement in the least. I guess I'm just a disbeliever.

I'm still looking into buying this when it hits the shelves here stateside. I'll wait a couple weeks and see what the folks here say about it.

So it sounds to me like they're using a Diablo-like gameplay with an RPG system that wasn't meant for it (NWN), with a Wasteland/Fallout setting, and the open-endedness of Morrowind.

I'm not talking about the "open-endedness" (if that's a real word) found in Morrowind. I'm questioning why you refered to that whole aspect in the context of FO:PoS.

In other words, where'd you pick up the idea that this game was non-linear? Last time I heard, it wasn't.

And where'd you get the idea that Morrowind fans are rushing to get this game? Perhaps some people will (soon) own both games, but they're not related in any way. That's like saying that Super Mario Bros. fans were clamoring to get the PunchOut game when it came out on NES. Or even trying to associate the Duck Hunt game with Super Mario Bros., even though they came in the same cartridge.

Please, a little more intelligent thought included with your next post would be highly welcome here.

Sorry Ozrat but i don`t get what you`re saying, who is talking about FOPoS and where, i seem to be out of context perhaps.

Bradylama may be a bit overoptimistic about the Fall, and i don`t give much credit to any type of exagerations while promoting a game by a developer, even from a nice and serious one like Carlsten, but we just have to wait and see on this, at least for now, we don`t have enough information to know exactly how the game will play.

D'oh! :wall:

My bad. I'm just used to seeing him bring up those types of arguments towards FO:PoS in other threads that I completely forgot that this was about The Fall.

But yeah, like you said... We need to wait until the game actually comes out before we can say those types of comments for sure.

Optimism? I was being sarcastic.

I was mostly making light of the description, because I always find it amusing when people try to promote their games by claimikng them to be "revolutionary" or how it'll appeal to multiple fans of very different games.

I`ve grown used to it, it`s their job and all, of course i don`t take it serious, if only more people would do the same...

Yup. Actually, when something is "new and improved", you can argue "which one is it?". If it is new, then there is nothing like it before it as opposed to if it is improved...

Pick up what information you can from it. And try keep tabs on what is marketing talk and what is gamers' talk.
