Fallout 1 - 1st playthrough recommendations?

First time out of the vault
I have a friend who has never played Fallout 1 before and I want to make sure they are all set up right.

So, if you were to play Fallout 1 for the very first time, which mods or patches would you recommend? Is just the latest the FIXIT mod the way to go? Or, does that have too much extra stuff added?

Also, which version should I get, GOG, Steam, etc?

Thanks a lot for the help! Appreciated!

F1 child patch
Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch
F1 sfall for faster animations (1,5x faster is best setup but you can do even 3x, many new players complains abot "slow" fights)
Fallout Patch 1.3.4 ENG TeamX
Fallout NPC Mod v3.4 English version

And I don't recomend:
Fallout Update Mod v1.2.5 english version
For first run, which add a lot of cut stuff.

GoG is better than steam, it's DRM free.

OK, here is what I have installed in the order below:

1. Fallout 1 (GOG version)
2. Fallout Semi-official patch by TeamX (v1.2.1 RC)
3. Fallout Unofficial patch by TeamX (v1.3.5)
4. Fallout High resolution patch by “Mash” Matt Wells (v4.0.2)
5. Fallout NPC Mod by TeamX (v3.5)

Does this seem good to you?
Is sfall needed with the High resolution patch?
I noticed the Fallout Children Patch is included in Fallout Semi-official patch by TeamX (v1.2.1 RC), so I don't think I need that one.

Thanks!

Sfall is something completely different.
High resolution allow you for... high resolutions, while sfall is for faster animations (and some other things too).

Check there:

Well, maybe he will enjoy those longs fights and that all great animations, who knows, but if not, use it. It can be placed during playing so no need to restart playthrough.

I'll check it out without first and see how it goes since it does overwrite the HiRes patch. Also the GoG version has a slider for speeding up combat built in, maybe we'll check that out as well.

Thanks for the help!

That slider dont work and it's in every version. Just sayin.
And your high res patch have ddraw.ini?
If yes, then you can use that one to increase speed.

Is it bad if I own F1 + F2 + FT on both GOG & Steam?

Either way both versions work fine.
