First time out of the vault
FALLOUT ( 1 / 2 ) BRIGHTNESS FIX - Win9x/NT/2k/XP (prob. VISTA, too)

Fallout ( 1/2 ) is too dark ! In-Game Gamma Settings do not work for me !
Answer:

1. download -> _www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/Gamma-Panel.shtml
( Freeware, standalone exe, no need to install PowerStrip or other crap )
2. extract "gapa.zip" to your HD ( eg. C:/Programs/Gamma Panel/ )
2. go to your Fallout game folder and WRITE-PROTECT your fallout1 / fallout2.cfg
file ( right-click, Properties )
3. fire up Gamma Panel ( gapa.exe ), under "Settings" raise Brightness to your
liking ( i found that with nvidia cards, best setting is to add about
15 percent )
4. save a profile if you like ( check the Gamma Panel readme if your INT is
below 4...
5. fire up Fallout ( 1/2 ) and enjoy !
i did not try this with fallout1, so i dont know the name of that cfg.
must work anyway. have fun. ah, and btw. sorry if this is in the wrong forum, my 1st post...
