Fallout 1 & 2 CD-ROM not downloading correctly

Cosmonaut

First time out of the vault
I recently bought two copies of the original fallout games, 1 and 2 from my local Microcenter, and they do not install correctly into my computer. I have a Window's Vista 32-bit , and when i pop the disc in the wizard does not pop up, and when i try to manually install it the computer freezes. It freezes only until i eject the disc. I bought 1 & 2 in separate boxes, and I didn't buy the trilogy. Is there a way to extract the install, or somehow download the game without it freezing?

Does the drive make any particular sounds? It could possibly be that if you have a new, fast drive and the games are on CDs rather than DVDs it has trouble reading them. (My new comp had a heck of a hard time reading my old Beyond Good & Evil CDs.)

Sounds like you have the same problem I had with BG&E. Crappy DRM may be part of the problem, I don't know. A possible solution is to find a machine with an older DVD or CD reader, copy the content onto a memory stick and move it onto your computer from there. You could also try googling around for a general solution to the CD reading problem (and if you find one, I'd love to hear).

Actually, one of my brother's mutual friend team viewed me and actually extracted the files of fallout 1, and i was able to play it, but for some reason fallout 2 did not work, so i just installed it to my old dusty 98', and it's still at 17 percent for the last hour, but hey if it works it will be great! By the way, i love your fallout guide, it's way easier to navigate then the fallout wikia.
