Fallout 1 alpha/beta/you know

Tortilla

First time out of the vault
Hola. I guess you already discussed this. Well:

My old Fallout 1 CD came with some kind of Fallout MS-DOS early alpha or something. I couldn't run it at that time (MS Windows ). So, I lent the game to a friend and he lost it. Great.

Now it's 2007 and I'm back fully loaded with DOSBox. But no CD. Ugh.

So, anyone could play that thing? How? Where to find it? Screens? Yuck.

Gracias.

You mean the Knights demo or what it was called? Seemed to me like an engine demonstration and not much more...

From the CD readme:
The second is the original prototype version of Fallout. It was written
in 1994 as a test for an isometric, hex-based engine. Just run MAIN.EXE
to see the game. You can paint the scenery and move the knight around
with the mouse. Just press Quit to end the prototype. Wow, Fallout has
come a LONG way, eh?

Couldn't get it to work with Dosbox. But I recall "playing" it under Win98.

Well, here are the files, if you are still interested. Main.exe is just the fallout engine prototype and fallout.scr is a screensaver.

De nada. 8-)
Well, I was in a bit of a rush earlier, but I just ran it and it said it needed dos4gw. Oops; I guess I should have included it. Anyway, here's the file. Just place it in the same dir as the other stuff and main.exe should run. Tried on the regular winxp cmdline and on dosbox with dynamic core, ran flawlessly on both. Didn't try the standard dosbox core.

How interesting...
