Fallout 1 - annoying weapon issue

Hello

When i have the shotgun equiped, it is just the simple image of the gun. i cant use it in combat, no say of the AP needed etc

But i can trade it or see the details from the inventory screen.

could it be that its broken? if so how do you fix weapons?

Man in Fallout 1, I was lugging around my plasma rifle and I eventually quit and started over because I couldn't seem to use it. My arm was crippled (I found this out much later)

Maybe there should be text in combat regarding the attempted use of an item while crip'd.
