Fallout 1 Crash - Turning in Water chip

First time out of the vault
Hi all. Hope to get some help on this. My Fallout 1 game is patched with the official 1.1. Also i installed using the Humongous Install on windows XP SP2. I am running in windows 95 compatability mode and have adjusted the fallout.cfg file to work around the Hard drive space issue.

My computer is an Alienware Area51-m 7700:

Pentium4 @ 3.6 ghz
2gb RAM
GeForce 6800
200gb Hard drive
realtek onboard audio
DirectX 9.0c

The problem occurs when i return to Vault 13 to turn in the water chip. The overseer asks for the chip and I give it to him, then i get a black screen and the game crashes. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!
 
Uhm, I think your dialogue or script files must have gotten corrupted somehow. I don't believe there's an amination after that, so that's not the case. Try reinstalling.
 
Aye, reinstalling always fixes everything. Don't worry about save games, just go into your data folder and move the SAVEGAME folder on your desktop, remove the program, and reinstall.
 
Actually, he e-mailed me to confirm it was a case og OVER.MSG corruption. Case closed.
