Fallout 1 (HiRes: Screen Black, Before: Failed Title Screen)

First time out of the vault
Hey everyone, I want to pick up Fallout 1 again.
I recently have had some major issues with my graphics card, and thought Fallout 1 might be able to let me enjoy some old-school gaming.

Problem/s:
> With the HiRes patcher, made by the amazing user on this forum ;), I seem to get just a black screen, but I can hear the starting audio fine, "Interplay" followed by "Television and intro" followed by "Wasteland/DesertWinds Music" (Meaning I had reached the main title screen).
I can then, at this point, ESC and exit the game, but I can't actually see anything the whole time.

> Without the HiRes patch, I can view the intro splash videos, but if I try to skip the second one, or wait until it finishes loading, it glitches the screen image (based on where I try to skip it changes the look, BRIAN FARGO - gives me his name and a neon-green rectangle, and other places give me glitched video art, but I can then hear the DesertWinds music/Title theme, and ESC to get out.)

Probably the worst part about this problem is I managed to get FO1 running on my system before, but now I'm having major dramas...

Does Fallout 1 "NEED" a graphics card, or can it run on CPU only and a monitor?

I'm running WIN-7, 64bit, etc.

I'm kinda over trouble-shooting, I generally can work my way around these problems, disabling explorer for the dodged up colours, etc, compatability modes and admin-privs... but my gosh it's driving me nuts this time around.

Does anyone have any solutions?
I WOULD ALMOST KILL TO PLAY THIS AGAIN!
