I installed Fallout 1 from a copy of the game I picked up from Best Buy. It installed as version 1.1. When i tried playing it that way, the game loads and there is audio, but no picture. Just a black screen.
I installed the 1.2 and 1.34 patches from this site, and the intro screens started loading - I get the first one with the ship circling earth, then "Brian Fargo Presents". If I hit any buttons during that one, the background turns neon green and nothing happens. Hitting escape exits the game.
I've tried every combination of compatibility settings imaginable, the french refresh program, nothing. I tried the hi res patch, and while installed it reverts to the original problem of no picture at all. I've looked through the forums and all i can find is problems with the screen blacking out during play. I can't even get to the menu.
Any ideas?
