Fallout 1 - Need help =( !SPOILERS!

I am at an awkward position in the game. I made a melee character and have been going pretty good up until this point. Currently lvl 8 and undefinedI have recovered the water chip, several quests for random towns til to my level.

now i haven't been going at a slow pace either. by the time i recovered the chip, done quests, explored it was still in the middle of the year. the overseer warned me about a mutant invasion and by the time i knew it they had invaded everywhere, including the BoS base so i couldn't even join them after i went through the effort of exploring the glow

so i went back to vault 13, talked to the overseer (no help) and yeah, basically nothing. only lvl 8, only got metal armor and mutant turning up in heaps of random encounters so can't even play normally.

now this is where i am really stuck. i purposely get myself caught at the hub and get arrested, resist telling the whereabouts of vault 13 and get stuck in the cell. my sneak is poor and so is lockpick, but by some miracle i still got out. even then i can't get past the guard outside my door who either takes me his the leader where i am killed, or be killed resisting.

but out of all that, i am only level 8 and i can't even continue? everyone in every town is dead!? wtf is with that? even if i somehow manage to destroy the base wtf do i do with all this loot and at only level 8, possibly 9 after it? did i play this wrong???

so confused

tl;dr - level 8, found chipped, everywhere invaded by mutants (including BoS no no power armour), everyone in every town dead. wtf

Did you use some mods?
In the vanilla game, there's no invasion except for Necropolis, as far as I remember.
If you use something like Fallout Fixt, well, then you're screwed I guess.
Fallout has a very unkind timelimit, and if that runs out... You can try to be very sneaky for the rest of the game, but it's probably going to be veeeery hard.
I never played Fallout Fixt, I think I need to fix that some time soon

ahh you're prob right. it was the warez-bb edition and i just read through the main features which included:

- High resolution mod
- Restoration mod
- Kids are enabled

would these explain it? pretty annoyed, enjoying the game immensely!

Yup, that explains it.
Don't talk about warez here, though. Better edit your post.
Also, get the game. It's dirt cheap nowadays and worth every penny.
Get the Fallout Trilogy boxset, it has Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics.
