FALLOUT 1: Npcs won't move, crash when trying to leave map.

First time out of the vault
So, I decided to play fallout 1 again.

I was enjoying it but last night I hit a bug I can't get past. I was in the hub when after a conversation, I was "knocked unconscious" and brought to a raider camp with my 2 NPCs and my dog.

I pretty easily killed all the raiders, but now I can't leave that map. Every time I try to exit, the game crashes. I know something is wrong before I even leave because the 2 human NPCs seem to be frozen (the don't follow me and trying to talk to them does nothing).

Unfortunately, both my regular and backup save have the same problem (I know I should have had more saves.. my bad).

I've tried everything to get them to "come alive" again, but nothing works. I can initiate combat, shoot one of them, and the all come alive, but then after the battle, whoever is alive is frozen again.

Anyone know how I can fix this? The only thing I haven't tried is killing all the frozen NPCs, but I really don't' want to lose them. is there a cheat to put them back in?

Any help would be appreciated, as I really want to keep playing, but don't want to start at the beginning.

Yes, search the forums.

Unfortunately, a search has only yielded a similar bug in Fallout 2, but since this won't let me leave the map, I'm a bit more screwed.

When you say "Yes," Do you mean yes there is a fix, or yes there is a cheat to put the NPCS back in once I kill them?

Well, last night I murdered Ian and Tycho in cold blood, and was able to continue on with the game.

I'd really prefer to have them back. Any way to reanimate them? I've read a bit about deleting the .sav and going back to the area. If I did that for the original areas where I picked them up, would that work? then do I restore the .sav so that the town reverts to the way I left it? A little clarification would be helpful, thanks.
