Fallout 1 patch problem

Cafisho

First time out of the vault
Hello, i have a version of Fallout (i don´t know if it´s USA or UK) that comes already patched to 1.2.

When i try to install the TeamX patch 1.3.2 the readme says that replaces some files, i decompress the rar files in the fallout directory and nothing is replaced, in fact... it creates new folders that aren´t even in the original installation :!: The directory structure of the DEFAULT fallout is this:

escrinshot31dj4.jpg

escrinshot32xi7.jpg

Inside "maps" there isn´t ANY file and inside "sound" there is another folder called "music" with lots of acm files.

What´s wrong here? I installed it using the humongous option.

thank you people :)

If you installing it on the unmodded version of the game the patch doesn't replace any files, just create the new ones.

Fallout v.1.3.2 patch should create these directories in data folder:
data, maps, scripts, text.

You will need to extract the files from the master.dat file using a fallout 1 data extractor (check the download section here at NMA and look under fallout modding or DAT tools)

I already extracted all the files of master.dat in the Fallout folder using "F1DatExplorer0.3", all the folders had the "Fallout" prefix which i erased. Now i patched it and replaced all the files, when i execute the game i get an error of master.dat since i erased it (i don´t that´s necessary if i extracted all the files from it :S). Should i repack all things into another master.dat? how i do that?

Thanks :)

If it´s unmodded there´s no point on patching, right? :S
No, unmodded game = clean install + official patches (possibly).

I already said what you need to do to install TeamX patch.

I'm playing Fallout with these mods/patches:
- Children Patch
- Fallout Update Mod v1.2.5
- Fallout v1.2 patch (by TeamX)
- Fallout v1.3.2 patch
- Fallout NPC Mod v3.1

But as i already stated in the first post, i have almost NOTHING on the DATA folder, so there´s nothing to replace to with the patches. That´s why i must EXTRACT all files from master.dat...

No, you don't need to extract it. Just unpack the file and it should work.

Did you read readme.txt from TeamX patch? If no:
Copy the compressed patch file into the directory that Fallout is installed to.
Decompress the patch using a file decompression program such as UnRAR
or WinRAR version 3.30+. Extract the files using the option to include
subdirectories. Answer 'Yes' when prompted to overwrite existing files. After
the files have been decompressed, you can delete patch archive from your
Fallout directory.

Where do you see something about extracting files from master.dat?

That´s why i had my doubts and the two replied posts from the beginning confused me. I already did what you said except installing the "Update Mod". Thanks for the reply :)

Oh, there is a way to know if the patch is working right? The game version at the bottom right of the menu is still 1.2, any other way?. Thanks again!

Can anyone answer the last question, please? I´m really desperate to play this game :P heard so many good comments...

There is not real way to know if it's installed properly unless you know what bugs are fixed and encounter them in the game. The exe file in the patch will access files in the data folder first before the .dat files. Download the patches to your fallout folder and unzip them make sure there is nothing after c:...../fallout when doing this. If a new folder is created in the main fallout folder then you did it wrong. There should only be the data folder there, plus the exe, dat files and config file, and ereg folder. Plus some read me files. If you want to be real sure, the data folder should be close to 80 mb in size. Hope this helps.

Oh, so the .exe file changes the way data is accessed, great info. The only thing i don´t see over here is the "ereg" folder (in the main one or DATA). All the rest is right, the DATA folder is 81MB.

Another thing that´s curious is that inside de MAIN "data" folder there is another one also called "DATA" (with caps, in there there´s the "vault13.gam" file)

Thanks a lot, with this thread i´ll set a precedence in the newbie´s world :P
