Fallout 1 PnP RPG sketchup resource HELP!

Drunkenn Edditor

First time out of the vault
Introducing Pen&Paper RPG games to my kids (old school nerd) and realised that Fallout is the obvious choice. As its based on Gurps, my kids haven't played Fallout 1or2, and the overwhelming amount of resources online, I thought I'd give it a go as xmas project.

I'm building amongst other things, a world viewer, where they can see the environment their characters are in. Current thoughts is to build the locations in google sketchup, and view them in Google earth, which allows the inclusion of real terrain (I just add ruins & trees etc). Other than a problem in getting buildings to stay on the ground (floating 20m in the air is not really useful) I have a lot of stuff to make. I am trying to use FO1&2 textures (converted to 2D) where I can, but hoping to include many things that didn't make the games due to technology restrictions. I am hoping to get 2D images of buildings from FO3 & FNV to build and fill up the wasteland, But as I am predominately Mac (I have a PC laptop, but can't find my PC FO3 game and GECK won't work) I was hoping to see if there is someone out there that can help!

I was hoping to show examples of what I have so far, built within the limitations of sketch up, but the I cannot post with the link (first time poster)

I am not looking for current generation gaming graphics, just a quick & cheap PnP gaming resource - and I am happy to share what I have with contributors, and the general public when its more complete.

Also I am looking for the most accurate maps as the ones online vary in their accuracy. I am using a kmz file that has the fallout locations in Google earth and hoping to expand on it. Any other resources that you may think could be useful would also be helpful

Thanks in advance!

So... Are you going to use real world satellite images, or FO 1/2 sprites, or FO3/FNV art? I don't think mixing them is going to look very good.

You can probably just export the models to a Blender format and render it there.

What kind of help do you actually need? I don't think that was explicitly clear.

I wrote a better initial post but the page refreshed and I lost the lot. I would have liked to include a link to some images but being a first time poster it wouldn't let me

This is the basic 'look' FO1 buildings converted and used as textures

Layouts used for walkthru, but once I get outside the wasteland is empty

These are ruins & trees i made from screen caps - long & distracting process

You can probably just export the models to a Blender format and render it there.
Is there a tutorial you could link me to? I am competent in Blender, 3D & photoshop but haven't specifically done any fallout stuff. Where can I get specific models from? At least if someone could send me specific models. I was interested in getting GECK and using Blender, but as time is my enemy, I was hoping someone who is already set up could help me source the images.

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for - I got this from a screen cap, straighten it, join it with the lower section, and do the 3 other faces - i am assuming it would be quicker doing it via GECK & Blender

If I keep the resolution low, I can put a fair bit in Google Earth as they are only used for static views, the rest is played on a virtual tabletop (D20)
I am building components for use in models so I can make the wasteland quickly, and take more time on the main locations

It looks quite good with Google Earth & all the mountains & stuff, just gotta stop everything 'floating'

If you wonder why I would be using Sketchup & not the Fallout 3/NV game engine with mods, is because If i have all the textures done, I could make a building in about 30minutes, a whole vault in about 2 hours

The overall idea is pictured here
Fallout Origins.jpg
Pen & Paper RPG, with a environment viewer where the standby screen is - This is just an extended screen from a laptop to show graphic files, videos (talking heads & other FO1 files I can find on youtube), a virtual tabletop, a hacking computer (working on a computer hacking mini game), and even phones & tablets used for Pipboys (The Players character sheet, which is linked to a master file that the Game referee can modify as game effects are calculated). The Red & Blue counters will be replaced by the Brother Vinnis miniatures I am painting atm

This will probably take longer than initially thought, but if people are interested, I can continue (I enjoy world building more than playing PnP games nowadays).
