Fallout 1 sound problems.

First time out of the vault
 strange problem here. i installed (humongus) fallout (1), and everything works just fine except the sound effects. the music plays well, voice-overs work well, all but the dings, the wizzes, and the gun noises, and the death sounds, and the door creeks, etc. but here is the kicker, THEY work fine for a few seconds, after loading a savegame or starting a new one, after about one or two turns in battle, or after about two or three doors are opened, they just stop working as if they had been switched off. i have went to preferences, (in the game) done everything imaginable, but no luck. the patche didn't help. (i already had 1.1 just didn't know it) i have soundblaster live! 5.1 and altec lansing surround sound speakers w/ subwoofer. (four sats and sub) i have played around with playback properties, swithing the speaker setup from two speakers, to stereo headphones, to quadraphonic, to keyboard speakers, to 7.1 surround, and they all do the same thing. (only like on two speakers my rears wont work at all) i'm sorry for such a long post, but this problem is driving me nutz. i'll save and load, every 20 seconds and that just plain sux. i have never had sound problems with any other game (haven't tried fallout 2 on this machine yet) thanx again, and cyaguys..
