Fallout 1: Stuck in Master's lair; can't open door

oceanclub

First time out of the vault
Am in Children's Cathedral, Lair Level 3, but cannot open the north-west door to the elevator. I've tried:

Plastic explosives
Dynamite
Crowbar + 10 STR
Multitools
Picking (with and without lockpicks)

Running the GOG version with Fixt on Windows 7 64-bit.

Help appreciated!

If I recall, you need a fairly high lockpick skill to open that door. If regular lockpicks aren't working for you, you probably need a set of Electronic ones. (It might indeed be a bug or a fixt issue, but I'm completely out of my depth there, so this is what I've got.)

Not sure how familiar you are with the game, so sorry if this comes off as patronizing, but if it helps at all you don't actually need to get through that door to proceed:

The elevator leads to only one of the three alternate methods of finishing your mission, and most will agree that it's actually the least climactic of the three. The other two scenarios unfold in the vault's command room; head into the computer room on the east side of the level and look for a door in the northeastern corner. It can be kind of easy to overlook.

Hi there,

Thanks for the tip; I would try an electronic lockpick but looks like I left them on the corpse of a companion a stop or two back.

And you're right, I never noticed the door in the east! I'll try there instead.

Thanks,

P.
