Fallout 1 too damn dark ...

First time out of the vault
Hi , I've just registered on this forum , checked the FAQ and readed the rules , but I couldn't find anything about my problem. Dunno why but I can't see any shit in Fallout. No , I don't have any problems with my eyes , just something is bad somewhere. I saw screenshots from this game and it looks a lot better and brighter than in game on my computer , which is brand new ... I've tried to set the compatibility mode to windows 95 and 256 colors but it doesn't do anything. Also if I try to set gamma in the video card driver its the same. My specs are Pentium D 2,6Ghz , 1GB ram , GeForce 7900GS. Please help me !

There's some shit in the outhouses, if you look closely.

It would really help if you specified a bit more than "I don't see any shit".

I gather the game is dark, right? Not pitch-black, but dark. Right?

What operating system are you using?

Ok , so it's really dark , so when it's night or I'm in a cave I can only se my own character. Also I forgot to add that the graphics are worse than on average screenshots. There are pixels visible everywhere and it looks bad , simmilar to Starcraft. For example i see some red color on the pistol (lol). I'm using Windows XP with SP2.

Have you tried different video drivers or turning down hardware acceleration?

Also, could you list everything you have tried so far.

So I didn't tried different video drivers or turning down hardware acceleration (how to do it anyway?).
As you wish , so I tried:
-changing the brightness in the game
-setting compatibility mode to win95 , 256 colors
-changing brightness in the driver
-changing resolution to 800x600 and 16 or 8 bit colors

Here is a guide, though you probably won't want to turn it off completely. Simply lower the slider a notch and see if that helps, if it doesn't, lower the slider another notch. Check out all the slider settings to see if you can find one that will help with your problem.

Ok , so I have lowered this slider to the third notch from the left , and I've got another problem. After the intro "Brian Fargo presents" i press escape button , the background goes green and game stops. It's probably the "inverted colors" problem I saw on the forum , isn't it? I hope there's a solution for this.

I made a screenshot when something gone wrong to my desktop. It looks simmilar to my Fallout - there are pixels visible and its dark.

Too bad that I can't take any screenshots in game , because its totally dark and you can't see anything at all. Ah , and I've got the same in Fallout 2.

Come on please help me with this , I've already got the latest drivers for my graphics card , and this is probably the problem... Sorry for doublepost :?

If you're sorry for the double post, why did you double post?
Yeesh.

Anyway, have you ever tried to attempt to re-install, or follow any of the directions in the stickies? Considering the fact that you have no clue as to what hardware acceleration, I highly doubt it.

I had to double post to take somebody's attention. Why I should even try reinstaliing the game when I have the same thing with Fallout 2? Anyway I've just reinstalled it but it didn't do anything better. Does Fallout run on 256 colors or 16bit in 640x480 ?

Holy shit ... Thanks alot , the game doesn't look better but I can see everything at last! :D Thx a lot Mad Max RW :D God bless you :)

Not a good excuse. The edit button *still* exists for a reason.

And apparently you *still* haven't read the stickies.
