Story So Far:
Fallout is extremely unstable for me under windows XP, I was getting the dr watson error as well as blue screens and general protection faults in falloutw.exe. Disabled the DW process & unticked error reporting but am still getting blackouts/crashes every 10 minutes . I am running fallout in 95' compatability mode, 256 bit colour, have set desktop resolutions as described in the FAQ's (800x600x16/640x480x8) and tried various levels of hardware acceleration for both the graphics and sound devices,
Basically at this point I have given up running fallout natively under XP, no other game crashes for me like this so I am pretty sure that its some hardware incompatibility causing the problem. I would be eternally grateful for either further suggestions of what to tweak in XP or a link on how to get DosBox properly configured. I have searched the forums but haven't come up with much other than the impression several people here have it running under DosBox, I can get it to start but it locks up after the loading screen - if its actually possible to make it work then I can post detailed config informatiion but I suspected that there are probably better places to beg for DosBox help.
I am also considering installing Virtual PC and using my old windows 98 CD to try and get FO1 working properly - however for the cost of the program it would be cheaper to just set up some POS box dedicated to fallout.
