Fallout 2 - Can it be run without a graphics card?

Exlo

First time out of the vault
This may seem like a silly question, but I'm desperate for some FO2 time and my graphics card is shot.

See, I get past the intro movies etc., but I reach the main screen and get a frozen, inverted colors screen that prevents me from seeing my mouse and so on.

I've deduced its because I don't have a working card in my PC, but was wondering if there was any possible way to play without one. Emulators, anything, as long as I can play this fantastic game.

I'm a newcomer to FO2 and these forums, in fact, but I've looked around and haven't seen the question asked yet. I apologize if it has been.

Hm, I think that Fallout 2 runs on software normally, but I'm not sure.
The resolution patches added some Direct X renderer support, as far as I remember.
I think there is a DOS version on the disc, too. You could run that with Dosbox, but I guess your PC isn't that great, so you will have abysmal performance.
Well, my advice would be to just buy a new graphics card. If you don't play any new games on your PC anyway, you can just get a 20$ piece of crap and it's fine. The low end cards come really cheap nowadays.
But as I said, I think it should run on software only.
You might want to post your complete setup and configuration of your PC.
On Windows Vista/7, Fallout tends to have weird colours and graphics. That's what the resolution patches are for, but without a graphics card I doubt that you can use them.
Also, for ultimate playing experience, you should definitely consider playing with the Restoration Project mod.

It also contains the resolution patch.
So, go to the nearest computer store, get some cheapass thingie remotely resembling a graphics card and fire away :)
